Fresh Barn Find with 29K Original Miles! This 1977 FIAT 124 Spider is a true time warp vehicle and drives like a car with 29,000 miles on it should. Purchased by me from an estate auction, it had to be dug out of a lean-to shed where it had been parked for over 30 years. Taking to the original owner's daughter, she said it was her mom's car for mostly driving during the summer and they had parked it in the garage due to an electrical issue (Wiring harness had shorted against the alternator). Around 1985, her mother passed away and her father never went back to fix the car. Door stickers for the last oil change show 25,578 miles on 1/29/1983, mileage at time of extraction was 29,042. Seeing the car had things like original FIAT brake pads and timing belt when I replaced them I feel confident this is original and all of the gauges including the speedo and clock are operational. This car you can go two ways with, either drive it as is and tackle some of the remaining items as you go and enjoy showing a true original car, or use this as the basis for a full restoration knowing the majority of the items are not worn out. The body has rust only in common FIAT surface rust areas, all structural areas are clean and solid. With a repaint it would look like new and there is very little interior work to be done. For a 1977 FIAT in the Midwest, it's amazing how little rust is present. Painted in FIAT Rosso 191, the exact red color of the FIAT badge with a white top, it draws attention and smiles.Over $2000 has been spent on it to bring it back to road worthy condition and receipts (and warranties) will be included. Items replaced in the brake system include flushing all the lines in the brake system, replacing all calipers, rotors, proportioning valve, lines to the wheels, master cylinder, serviced the front wheel bearings, and brand new tires on repainted rims. Fuel system was treated the same, the tank was sent out for boil out, lines fully flushed, new sender installed, new electric fuel pump with additional filter installed, carb fully rebuilt, linkage serviced, new plugs installed, points reset, and all suspect vacuum lines were replaced. Engine was first treated to top engine cleaner to de-carbonize the rings & pistons and then soaked with Marvel Mystery Oil before trying to turn the crank. All oils including engine, trans and diff were changed, new oil pressure light sender installed, all oil pan bolts/covers were tightened. In the pictures you can see signs of past leakage and that was due to almost every bolt was slightly loose on any pan or cover. Car runs with no smoking and has not shown any signs of valve seal leakage or ring blow by or oil leaks. Cooling system the radiator was boiled out, new timing belt, idler bearing, and water pump was replaced along with the main radiator hoses and the fan thermostat. Alternator and battery was replaced with new and the main wiring harness to the alternator was replaced. Smog pump was also rebuilt and all emissions systems are in place for a non-catalyst 49 state car, only change is the mid-mufflers were replaced with a straight pipe due to they were rusted out. Distributor has a slight oil leak from the weep hole, but no performance issues.Body condition is very good for a car stored for this time. The structural items show no signs of rust, all panels are straight with only minor dents/ rust areas, gaps are correct, doors close with a solid thunk with little effort, and the floorpans are solid with no signs of rust.Trunk area there is no rust.Issues are the car at one point must have had a minor impact as the front end has been re-sprayed and that the rear end faced outward when the garage was open so there is a difference in fading between the two sections. The windshield gasket must of leaked as a large amount of silicone was used to seal it but it doesn't leak now. There is some slight paint adhesion areas on the front left fender you can see in the photos. But the paint is smooth and shined up nicely. Rust areas are all surface, starting with the lower rocker panels and common points like around the headlight buckets and the side markers. The right rear fender lip has the largest area needing some work, but the rest of the quarter panel is solid. The rocker panels are non-structural and available from several suppliers and would be about the only thing needing to replace. Bumpers could use re-chroming if you don't put early style ones on there. The car does have dents in areas from things in the garage falling against it, but no signs of major body work anywhere. The top is a replacement top from about 1985, the window is clear and has little scratching. There are no issues with the vinyl except for it could use some further cleaning. The interior vinyl the only issue is there is some splitting in the driver's seat bottom, but the included freshly washed and great condition sheepskin seat cover takes care of that. Otherwise there are no tears in any of the other vinyl pieces and all the gauges operate, including the clock keeps correct time. The car did not come with A/C or a radio and they were never installed, so nothing has been molested behind the dash. Fan switch for the heater works but could be replaced as it's finicky.  The original top boot cover is included and is in great shape along with most of the original tool kit and the jack and handle. Replacement parts availability is excellent for these cars and most of the parts I replaced I can send with the car if wanted. Driving the car it is solid, squeak free, very comfortable, and loves to rev. It tracks true and stops solidly. Like said prior, it drives like it has 29,000 miles on it and feels like new, which is why I don't' doubt the mileage. If I didn't own an early Miata I bought new & my wife wanting her parking space back, I wouldn't be selling it seeing how it turned out. (Amazing how much they copied of the 124 in the Miata with them sitting side by side.) Car is being sold AS-IS and has a clean IN title in seller's name and is currently registered. I have a lot more pictures (about 100), and videos, feel free to ask about areas of the car I'll be happy to send them. If you are after a 124 Spider for either a tinker around project, a full restoration, or to just enjoy and drive, this is it!!Payment of $500 deposit due within 24 hours, payment needs to be within 7 days unless otherwise discussed with seller, payment by cash, ACH, wire transfer, inter bank transfer or cashier's check.
