The Mercedes-Benz W129 models were produced from 1989 until 2001
and were sold under the SL-Class model name before being replaced
by the R230 in 2001. The W129 was based on the shortened floorpan of
the Mercedes-Benz W124 saloon and featured many innovative details
for the time. The fifth generation of the legendary SL series of
two door convertible sports cars featured a fully retractable
hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof; a first for the SL
class although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since
1997.
Possibly the most important W129 Mercedes-Benz outside of the
Daimler Museum in Stuttgart. this 500SL has led a very interesting
life. Manufactured as a pre-production car. it was originally
registered on temporary German number plates and was used for the
press launch of the much acclaimed W129 in Lyon. France. It
also appeared at the Paris Motor show before being transferred to
Mercedes-Benz UK in Milton Keynes where it was used for promotional
purposes and subsequently sold onto the open market in 1990.
Finished in blue black with mushroom interior. this magnificent
500SL comes with an outstanding history file. In light of the
uniqueness of this example. for the last few years G672 UFM has
been in a private collector's museum and as such. has covered very
little mileage of late. Having been maintained to an exceptionally
standard and covering a mere 64. 00 miles from new. not
surprisingly. the vendor describes the car as being outstanding to
drive. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a valid MoT
test certificate. this Mercedes-Benz 500SL is sure to attract the
attention of both enthusiasts and collectors alike.
