1988 MK1 T-bar MR2 - K20 RestomodAuction End update: I've been called away for work in Germany. Returning 23rd. I've set this auction to end on the 25th, giving two days for anyone wanting a test drive.£7,000 is the lowest I will go, the auction won't get cheaper. I'm in no rush to sell it. It's not being used, but is moved around the driveway on occasion to make room. The only part exchange I will take is a Citroen berlingo or Peugeot Partner. Black or Grey. 1.6 HDI with Air Con.It's finished, it's got 12 months MOT. There's nothing that needs ‘doing', it's not that kind of project car.

Full restomod conversion, into one of the fastest MR2s on the road in the UK.

This isn't a finished project car, this is the ‘start' of a modified car journey. All the hard engineering is done, and the performance modifications can really start from here, you don't need to worry about legalities, getting an MOT, or welding up rust. Just drive it, and make it yours.

It's still got a few pieces of trim missing, and it's got a sub optimal paint job, but it still starts every morning, drives me to work with a massive smile, turns heads, overtakes everything, and pulls stronger than you can imagine.

There is scope here to make a perfect show car, or strip back all the niceties and make a track weapon. You may be asking “why aren't you doing that then?” simple: I've done what I wanted to do with this car. I restored it. That's what I like doing, and now it's done, I want to move onto the next one.

I will consider test drives, but by appointment only, at evenings and weekends. I will insist that you wear a mask whilst in the car, and I will be the passenger in the car whilst you have a spin down the a49.

Trailers and overseas shipping are welcome, I'm happy for it to be collected by a car transporter, with payment through Paypal, or bank transfer.

If you have any questions, comments, or observations, please get in touch.

Car is located just outside Brimfield, near Ludlow, Shropshire.

A piece of the arch needs filling, as it was damaged in a car park.

Large scratch on the boot lid.

Paint… the paint is just not the best. It's all blue, but it really needs doing professionally to make it look 100%

Legalities

Car will have a full 12 month MOT from 16th July

V5 still lists it as a 1.6, I just insure it as a modified car with an engine swap with Adrian Flux (£350/year, 10k miles, SDP)

If it's not sold by the end of the month, it will be SORN as the Tax and Insurance runs out.

As it's old enough, it has no catalytic convertor, so is quite loud if you have the outer pipes open (set by ECU) but it's 'sporty' with just the inner pipes at low RPM.

The doctronic software, and associated map files, will be included in the sale. I can also guide the new owner on how everything works including the arduino that controls the exhaust valves. (it's simple! Honest!)

Payment Options

Online bank transfer or via PayPal. No cash or cheques

P/X options: I am looking for: Citroen Berlingo MK2 1.6 HDI (110ps) w/ Air Con

M.O.T Update

Passed M.O.T with it needing only a new numberplate bulb, and a missing bolt re-installing into the timing cover which was allowing a small oil weep.

Two advisories were noted: 1. It's going to need a new pair of front strut inserts this year, and 2: A rear ball joint needs replacing.I've decided not to do anything with the front struts, as the new owner might want to use it as a track toy, and might want Koni adjustable shocks rather than KYBs. It's also a simple job for a home mechanic or a cheap job at a garage. The rear ball joint, however, has been replaced. I have adjusted the price to account for the front struts requiring work.
