The Heacock Classic website writers continued: "Although it was an all-new car, the basic mechanical layout of the new Camaro was familiar, engineered much like its predecessor with a unibody structure utilizing a front subframe, A-arm and coil spring front suspension, and rear leaf springs. The chassis and suspension of the second generation were greatly refined in both performance and comfort; base models offered significant advances in sound-proofing, ride isolation, and road-holding. Extensive experience Chevrolet engineers had gained racing the first-generation led directly to advances in second-generation Camaro's steering, braking, and balance."

Offered here in white over red is an extremely rare, fully documented, 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 convertible. Quoting the BarnFinds website: "The Camaro would have been sold brand new as a convertible, but the actual conversion work was completed by an outside contractor (National Coach Engineering of Michigan). The fact that these cars were sold directly off the showroom floors of various Chevrolet dealerships as new cars make them as close to a factory Z28 Convertible as it was possible to get in 1981." As to their rarity, a post on the discussion forum noted: "NCE converted about 400 between 1979-1981 and only about 100 are known to still exist, and almost all are owned by collectors." The car is in excellent condition throughout and shows 75,723 miles on its odometer, a very conservative under-1,900 miles per-year on average. Clearly, prior owners understood how special and rare this Z28 convertible is.

The exterior white paint retains excellent gloss and a uniform finish across the entire car. The body panels-including the front and rear spoilers, front grille, front-side fender vents, fender-flares, and air-induction hood-are free of dings, dents, or other damage. Decals and striping unique to the Z28 (on the hood, lower body sides, and below the rear spoiler) are properly in place and free of damage or fading. The windshield and cabin glass is clear; lighting lenses are similarly clear and free of cracks. The factory "Z28" emblems in the front grille and on the rear fascia remain properly mounted. Original-equipment, 5-spoke alloy wheels, with "Z28"-logo centercaps and brushed-metal trim are mounted with GrandAm® Radial GT outline-white-letter tires. The white fabric convertible top is free of damage and operates properly.

Inside, red is the theme with three related shades of the color nicely incorporated on leather upholstery, door trim, dashboard, cabin carpeting, steering wheel, and convertible "boot" cover. In particular, the two-tone, lighter and darker red leather seats feature a particularly handsome design. The squared-off design dashboard (in darker red) includes analog instruments arrayed in a driver-focused cluster; all instrument and gauge markings are sharp and crisp with no fading. The original factory AM-FM radio is properly mounted. The shifter for the Turbo 350 transmission is console-mounted forward of power-window controls and a center storage compartment. All surfaces, both soft and hard, in the cabin have been very well-maintained with little or no indications of wear.

Underneath the hood, the 350 cubic-inch Chevrolet V8 occupies a clean but not overly detailed engine bay. All components-including air conditioning-are properly mounted; hoses and ignition wiring is properly routed. Viewed from below, the chassis is complete and undamaged.

All original build-data and VIN tags and markings remain in place on the body.
