This is a 1978 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 416 Cabriolet. "Mogs" are best known for their ability to traverse terrain of all sorts, and this model has desirable features that set it apart from the other Unimogs one might find. This model offers a 5.7L inline-6 diesel, 4-wheel drive, vinyl roof, and a drop-side bed with custom tool box and appears to be well taken care of, judging by the overall condition of the interior and the exterior. The exterior is finished in green and black, which appears to be the original color from the factory. Some overspray is present, but the paint has great shine and looks fantastic from 15 feet away. The black manual-folding canvas soft top shows and operates well overall, save for a few scratches that don't appear to be holes. All of the components underneath are either repainted black or hold their original black appearance from the factory, including the two gas tanks, with the Mercedes-Benz three point star on the caps. Upon inspection, you'll also find a bright red master switch that acts as a full power cutoff from the two battery setup. It also is difficult to miss the gigantic Continental tires and the dual winch setup, which makes this a very capable rock-crawler. This Unimog is also set up to be a personnel carrier with a bench for seating in the fold-down bed of the truck, with seatbelts, and a storage box underneath. Not known for creature comforts, this Unimog sports a commercial interior with two grey seats, exposed metal floors for easy cleaning, and a large black engine cover hump that let's you know that this is a Forward Control vehicle with the engine mounted in the cabin. Between the two seats are the driving controls, levers, and knobs to activate the twenty forward gears or the eight reverse gears, among other related features. Instrumentation appears to be in full working order with labels in German and a clock integrated into the speedometer. One should note that the odometer is read in kilometers, and the speedometer is read in kilometers per hour. The green painted dash shows well and is free from major scratches and defects. The engine compartment was detailed recently and looks as it should. The engine and some components are painted light blue and look original. With a twist of the key, operation of a hand throttle, and a push of the starter, the diesel comes to life quickly and runs strong. The stout motor and drivetrain give the feeling and confidence of a commercial quality and reliability, while still fully capable for personal use around town or out on trails. On the test drive, we did not attempt to drive the Unimog at highway speeds, capping our test drive at about 40 miles per hour. For details and information, please call, email or text Dan Shaffer at 1.480.861.9498 or . The Unimog is located at our Phoenix showroom and we are pleased to help arrange transport worldwide.
