Great colors, older repaint, mostly original interior. Freshly serviced 390 cubic inch V8, newer brakes, fresh shocks. Rides and drives beautifully. Attractive Bullet Bird in a traditional color combination that is ready for fun.

Repainted a few years ago, this Thunderbird hardtop looks far better than any car at this price should, with good bodywork and no notable signs of previous accident or rust damage. The blocky grille, the hood scoop, and, of course, the jet-exhaust taillights all make the Thunderbird look sophisticated and polished. You'll note that the body gaps are good, with doors that swing closed with a satisfying THUNK and fender skirts that fit neatly with no signs of rust issues in the wheel arch (a common issue on these cars). The chrome shines up beautifully with only minor signs of age aside from some light scratches on the bumpers that could probably be polished out. The only noteworthy deviation from stock is that someone painted the fuel filler door on the rear bumper, but that's a pretty small nit to pick. It's a good-looking car!

We believe the red bucket seat interior is mostly original, although it's almost too nice to be nearly 60 years old. The carpets have been replaced, but it appears that the seat covers, door panels, headliner, and dash pad appear to be original items installed in 1962. Both seats are firm and comfortable, not soft and saggy, and the back seat looks virtually new. The gauges are all fully operational and have bright markings and clear lenses, and all the chrome knobs are in excellent shape. Seat belts were added at some point and look like they were born with the car, offering period-style latches. The trunk wears a new mat set and there's only ultra-clean sheetmetal underneath, more evidence that this car has not spent time in a winter climate.

The only engine you could get in your 1962 Thunderbird was a 390 cubic inch V8, with this one being the Z-code 4-barrel version with 300 horsepower on tap. Freshly and extensively serviced, it runs superbly with that effortless flow of smooth torque that you'd expect from Ford's flagship. It starts quickly and easily and idles with an awesome V8 burble from the optional dual exhaust system, so you'll look forward to driving it every chance you get. The engine bay has been neatly detailed with correct silver tinwork and reproduction hoses for the right look. There's even a proper windshield washer fluid bag on the inner fender. The wiring is in excellent condition, the hood springs are strong, and it stays nice and cool in traffic. If you want a hobby car that offers zero compromises in terms of performance and comfort, the Thunderbird is a fantastic choice.

The undercarriage is quite original and in excellent condition. It was treated to a light dusting of undercoating in the distant past but it hides nothing and showcases the solid uni-body tub with no signs of rot or structural damage. The Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission shifts properly (use the green dot position for best performance!) and there are 3.00 gears in back, making this a great highway cruiser that can hang with modern traffic easily. The brakes have been recently serviced, including new wheel cylinders and hoses, the front end has fresh bushings and shocks, and the twin mufflers do indeed give it a most excellent soundtrack. Note that the rockers and torque boxes are in excellent condition, and this car definitely feels solid going down the road—no shakes or rattles at all. There are also fresh 205/75/14 whitewall radials that give it that luxury car ride.

This car also comes with a shop manual.

Glance through our SOLD inventory and you'll see we've had quite a few of these Thunderbirds. Between the clean shell, attractive color combination, and excellent maintenance, it's 100% ready to enjoy and definitely delivers on the Thunderbird's promise of sporty luxury. One drive and you'll be convinced, and if the current trend continues, this car might also turn out to be a smart investment. Call today!

Harwood Motors always recommends and welcomes personal or professional inspections of any vehicle in our inventory prior to purchase.
