Lea Francis 14hp 4 light coachbuilt saloon 1949.Low mileage rare original car for sale
Current customer rating: (871 votes ) based onI am selling this rare car on behalf of the local gentleman owner that has owned it and kept it carefully stored for more than 14 years during which time the car has had five new tyres and some new exhaust parts.
It has been stored. covered. in a warm dry garage and run up occasionally by the owners vintage enthusiast mechanic. It is of course exempt of MOT and is free to road tax once insured.
It is a 1949 Lea Francis 14hp 4 light saloon and has had fairly light use during it's 64 years as is indicated by the low mileage of 62. 03 miles and the fact that it has had only a few owners from new. /strong>
as shown by the original logbook which is present. as is the new type which is in the current owners name. The twin cam engine starts on the button and runs well and strongly (fresh petrol supplied from a can).
It has been driven around the owners yard today to prove the gears and drivetrain all work ok. They do.
As can be seen from the photographs it is a very original car with a very original and complete interior showing a great patina. Ashtrays. sunvisors. interior lamps etc are present and it has an opening windscreen too.
The chromework. which seems to be all there. nbsp;looks like it would respond well to a good polish. The substantial chassis looks sound and solid and has some areas of surface rust.
The body panels are all aluminium and appear generally straight and true although some local repairs are required. nbsp;notably on the front corners of the roof. The paintwork
is pretty scabby when looked at close up. It also has a sunroof which is a nice feature and the original headlining could do with some tidying although it is all there.
It features a useful and fully working built in jacking system. complete with the original winding handle attachment. which allows the whole car to be lifted off it's wheels.
The car would need a good going over to make it useable as it hasn't been on the road for many years. It has not been cleaned up and polished for the photographs I took
two weeks ago and the new owner will no doubt enjoy doing this for themselves - the car is being sold as it is and in need of some general restoration work and fettling. The new owner may opt to retain it's great originality or
may indeed choose to go down the full restoration route - either way it provides a great opportunity for the enthusiast.
The model is well supported by a great owners club and specialists with a good spares back up.
No messers please and I politely ask for anyone with less than 10 positive ebay feedback points to contact me with assurances of good intent before bidding as I may remove potentially spurious bids. I do not seek offers outside ebay and invite anyone with a serious and genuine interest to go ahead and bid on it so long as they are prepared to honour their legal obligations if successful.
The car is being relisted at a much lower start price and without reserve so would sell if there was only a single bid. At that sort of price it would represent terrific value.
The car can be taken away once full payment has been made and it requires trailering of course as it has not been driven on the road for quite some time. Purchaser to arrange own removal.
Contact me if you are serious and wish to view the car as it is kept 2 miles from my place and I am handling everything on behalf of the owner.
