Here for sale I have ‘Fernando' the furious but in no stretch of the imagination fast - FIAT 126 BIS. The 126 was the successor to the well know Fiat 500.
“With a mere 24 break-horse-power available, progress is too leisurely to be called fast, but on the motorway in 4th gear the Fiat's slow pace really becomes a pain. Uphill runs become power-sappingly mundane, while overtaking National Express coaches can become a long, drawn-out affair.” The words of Top Gear magazine.
This incredibly fun and increasingly rare retro car has been on quite the journey in recent years.
Around 2012 a friend of mine bought this Fiat from an elderly guy who had plans to restore it but never did - at that point it had been off the road for about 12 years and sadly didn't have any paperwork.
The car was pretty rough and so proceeded to receive a very good restoration which was documented via Retro Rides forum. For full info see: https://forum.retro-rides.org/thread/130862/1990-fiat-fernando-bonus-650cc
Some years ago due to the owner emigrating, the Fiat was then passed on to another friend of mine briefly before being owned by myself. It has been maintained it very well - including new plugs, leads, filters etc... as well as regular services. It has been dry stored for much of the last decade.
It isn't perfect and does have some areas of surface rust, however everything is solid.
Due to it's age it qualifies for classic car insurance - so is very cheap to insure & Tax is only £14 per month.
With current fuel prices a full tank is around £17 and it lasts for a surprising amount of miles (Approx. 150 - city driving)
It has to be one of the most fun cars I have ever driven - it gets good laughs wherever you go and puts a smile on so many faces.
These are super rare now and even rarer in RHD - so this really is an unusual opportunity to purchase a 126 BIS.
It starts and drives amazingly and has no known issues. I would be willing to put it through an MOT
The interior has some wear - the drivers seat has the most wear (pictured)
It has had recent full set of new tyres.
I have a large box full of spares - some expensive hard to find parts too.
Including (see pic):
- Wishbones, bushes and cross member kit
- Break and clutch pipes
- Spare set of skirting decals
- Various new seals & trim panels
- & more
I am in no doubt that 126's will continue to increase in value over the coming years.
I am open to sensible offers.
Collection only - viewing welcome
