E36 BMW M3 Evolution:

The E36 M3 was launched at the Paris Motor Show in October 1992 and proved a massive commercial success. It was the first M3 to be produced by BMW in both left and right-hand drive, and in its first 3 years sold 29,000 vs. the 18,000 total sales of the previous E30 M3 in its 5 year production run.

After these initial three years, in September 1995 the E36 M3 underwent an update and the Evolution was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The engine was enlarged from 3.0ltrs to 3.2ltrs, and the 5-speed transmission updated to a 6-speed Getrag gearbox. The E36 M3 was produced in Coupe, Convertible and Saloon body styles until December 1998 when production ceased to make way for the E46 3-Series. As I understand it, only 2,845 E36 M3 Coupes were made in right hand drive, so if accurate then this was certainly a rare car back in the 90s and super-rare today. One thing is for certain, buying an E36 M3 Evolution is an excellent investment opportunity – with E30 M3s changing hands for around £50K is it easy to see the E36 reaching circa £30K in the near future.

Our E36 BMW M3 Evolution:

The paintwork is excellent, with the car benefitting from having undergone a full restoration that was finished in January 2021 and included a ‘back to bear metal' respray in its original and glorious Estorial Blue. The panel gaps are all tight; the doors hang well off their hinges, as does the bootlid and bonnet, opening and closing just as you would expect on a car of this calibre. All of the black exterior trim is as new, consistent with the light lenses and glass. The original 17” M Contour II alloy wheels are in factory fresh condition with premium tyres.

The overall appearance is one of stunning originality and the car turns heads wherever you drive it.

Finished in full black leather, the ‘Vader' front seats are in great condition and the rear seats, all sporting the M-Sport colour inserts, look hardly used. The carpets look in great clean condition, as do the doorcards which show only very light signs of minor wear.

The dashboard looks excellent; it is in great visual condition with no cracks or obvious signs of wear. As is to be expected with an M3, the car benefits from a high level of specification that includes onboard trip computer, dual zone digital climate control, 6-disc CD multichanger, electric windows and sunroof, and reverse parking sensors. All of the switches, controls, gauges and dials function exactly as they should. Also present with the car is the original glove-compartment mounted BMW torch, and the full BMW toolkit, warning triangle and first aid kit (unopened).

Sold with the full owner's book pack, this M3 has the original BMW service booklet which details a comprehensive service history and includes details of a January 2021 service. In addition to this, the car comes with some previous MOTs and receipts.

The 3.2ltr straight-six engine, producing 321bhp and a 0-60mph of under 6-seconds, is faultless. The car starts from cold without any hesitation and is so capable, delivery plenty of power when required. Gearbox and clutch are spot on, and the exhaust note is fabulous. The M3 is truly effortless to drive, which is to be expected from such a well maintained car.

Finding a high quality and standard E36 M3 Evolution is getting harder with each passing year. Our M3 has covered a reasonable mileage and in recent years benefitted from that full body restoration, with a good deal of expenditure to ensure the new owner will have many years of enjoyable motoring.

Sold with 7 months MOT and the peace of mind that comes with no advisories identified at the MOT and a recent service, our standard and extremely high quality E36 M3 ‘Evo' is offered for sale at £16,995. Please do get in touch if you have any questions or would like to view the car. £16,995 (reduced from £18,450) – part exchange considered. Thanks for looking. Happy to answer any questions and to arrange a viewing of the BMW M3 - 07974 963559.

Thanks.
Andy
