UPDATES: To ease qualms and concerns from watchers of the last auction that thought there was rust being hidden behind the diamond plate in the rear corners. I spent half an afternoon removing the spare tire. the tire carrier. and the black diamond plate to show that there is no rust. There are a couple creases in the tub corners. which will be very easy to dolly out from behind.  The diamond plate. spare tire. and tire carrier are included. but I'll leave it to the new owner to remount. The last 4 pictures are updated photos. I will also be in and out around the holidays. 06. 29. 17-. 7. 04. 17. so replies may be delayed some.
For your consideration is a cult icon. 1974 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser. in it's original red paint. displaying a tremendous patina. You have to appreciate any vintage vehicle that still has it's original paint. as there is no new paint hiding all the problems underneath. like rust. or body damage covered with a quick coat of bondo and shiny new paint- you can plainly see any problems if any- with original paint on the vehicle. What really sets this FJ40 apart from all others is the fact that it so rust free. oming out of the dry high desert of  Nevada. previously from California. This one may be the most rust free of all the non-restored  FJ40's I have owned. which has been several. No rust thru's. or bubbling on this one. only some minor surface rust here and there. that will clean up very easily if you want to paint it or do a full resto. Amazing for a vehicle that is 43 years old. Most all of these fj40s will have rusted floorboards and be rusted out in the back around the fenders and below the tailgate- NOT THIS ONE!  This is the one restorers dream about for a base for a first class restoration.  Midwest and East coast  restorers and owners will appreciate this fact. When I was doing high end restorations in the midwest. we would have killed for clean bodywork like this. as cutting and welding in new metal is VERY costly and labor intensive.  Personally. I like the aged patina of the paint. and the only minor body damage on the driver's fender (which would be easy to bodywork out). which gives it the 4x4  used and driven look. not a garage queen. I have tried to give you some pictures of the usual problems area of the FJ40. so you can see just how nice this one is. The rear of the tub is really in great shape. as well as the floorboards. the  driver's side still showing a lot of the original lumpy asphalt  underlayment.  underneath the original floor mat.  I have not cleaned up this FJ40. just so you can see how it really is. no hiding anything under recent paint. bondo. and undercoating . or recent paint touch ups. no wax. armor all. or other BS.
Factory tag says it was built in December. 1974.
The FJ40 has seen tremendous value growth in the last few years. so these icons are a wise investment that you can also use. while it appreciates.
I have receipts from the previous owner. whom I bought it from.  showing he spent over $4000 dollars in 2005 for a new Chevy 350 engine. complete new brake system. front and rear. with conversion to front disk brakes. rear axles seals. clutch slave cylinder. The FJ40 has also been converted to Saginaw power steering. Work was done professionally. Previous owner stated the FJ has about 20k on it since all of the work was done.  Factory 4 -speed and transfer case. stock gearing. Tires are pretty worn. except the spare on the swing out carrier. The front buckets are old and worn. I don't think they are original to the vehicle. the rear seat is not too bad. original?  2 star cracks in right side of windshield.  The Bestop soft top and doors are in good shape. This vehicle runs and drives great. It was used here in the local mountians in Nevada for hunting and exploring back country roads- no heavy 4 wheeling- only a weekend rig. so very few miles were put on it since it was repowered with the new 350 crate motor. Clean Nevada title in hand.
