I purchased this Chevelle last fall in hopes of rescuing it and making it a short winter project. Unfortunately. it turned into a bit more than that.

The car had been sitting under a carport in Salt Lake City for almost 20 years. untouched. When I saw that it was basically a virgin 66 Chevelle still in possession of it's "Born With" 327 cu. in. 4-barrel and it's original Muncie M-20 and original shifter. I pounced on it.
When I got it home and back to the shop and started working on it. it began to self destruct. Don't let anyone tell you that cars don't decompose even though they are covered and cared for. First the radiator disintegrated. then the hoses. then the fuel pump. then the spark plug wires. After I got all that fixed. I was running it to make sure of no leaks and the heater core grenaded inside the car. Lucky me. but wait. there's more. After the new heater core arrived. I found that the heater boxes were shot. had to replace those too. Oh ya. I almost forgot. when I was letting the car warm up so I could set the dwell and time it. I noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust. can you say head gasket? When I pulled the exhaust manifolds off. the exhaust pipes crumbled. this day is just gettin better and better.
I pulled the heads and sent them out for a rebuild. while the shop had them. I told them to put hardened seats in them so whoever bought it could run unleaded gas.

While the heads were out. I inspected the cylinders to find hardly any ridge at all and the pistons were amazingly free of carbon build up.

Once all the above was completed. the car runs like a top. just fabulous. The interior was originally gold and I replaced it with black so you can paint it whatever color you want now. Here is what has been replaced on the car as well as what it needs:
Replaced:Radiator Heater core Plugs. wires. points. cap and condenser Valve job done Full interior including headliner New padding in the seats New American Racing Torque Thrust wheels New tires New rear metal package tray from the back window to the trunk New lower quarters from the wheelwell back on both sides. New front windshield Body is 80% done Full 2 1/4" dual Flowmaster exhaust system front to back. It needs:The few small areas on the body repaired. there are some minor dings and a small dent. It needs a full trunk pan. I have used replacement parts for the wheel wells. The interior dash needs work. the bezels are worn. the radio is there. but I doubt it works. The gauges and knobs are old and should be replaced. It needs a dash pad. I would replace the bright work around the windshield and back window. It's there. but it's pretty ratty. It needs the window lace. Car is equipped as follows:Original numbers matching 327 cu. in. 275 hp. V 8 Original numbers matching Muncie 4-speed Original Muncie shifter Original drive train throughout. Factory split bench seat Black vinyl interior including door panels front and back. New cloth headliner Metal on the floors was solid Car has never been re-painted with the exception of the single coat of primer I put on it to protect it. This is a great running car! It's also a rather rare car. being a split bench with a 4-speed. Even rarer to have it's born with drive train and only 88 K on the clock. I've done all the hard stuff. the car is now dependable and drivable. I haven't had it on any long trips. but if fires right up. goes down the road straight and stops as good as can be expected with drum brakes. There are some issues with the tail lights but I'm working on those this week. I didn't replace the trunk because I don't know who's going to buy it. A purest may want a full pan. a hobby guy who wants it for a driver may opt for the cheaper 3-piece pan. So I've left it up to you.
