Here is a Groovy Van. Its a 1966 Dodge A-100 sportsman window van. The story goes. Are you familiar with the saying "Don't drink the Kool-Aid?" This van was one of a few that was owned by The infamous Pastor Jim Jones and The Peoples Temple. I bought this Van a few years ago from a guy that got it from another guy who worked at the airport in Atlanta back in the early 70s. He said that this van and a few others like it where left at the airport when the church group headed to South America. He had them towed to his place in the mid 70s. I decided to share the story because I have believed it since I owned it. Whether you believe the story or not is up to you. Also whether you think it adds value is up to you. That's the main reason I am listing this van at NO RESERVE and starting bid $1. I don't know its value or if its history adds value being un verified. I think its true because why would someone go to so much trouble. You can read through faded and old paint Pastor Jim Jones on each side. Also but a lot harder to make out (on the white section) it said Peoples Temple. I have driven this van all over and always drawn a crowd. (usually I give out FREE Kool-Aid at the car shows. ) I did have a friend pinstripe it and paint the Kool-Aid man busting through the front doors. Some people like the joke and others are not as fond of it. Either way story or not this van is super RAD. It draws attention everywhere it goes. And will make someone a cool ride. camper. Harley hauler. or just a daily driver.
NOW ABOUT THE VANS CONDITION.
I have a clear and clean NC title in my name ready to be signed over to its new owner! This van has the tried and true Chrysler slant six. This thing runs like a sewing machine. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. I drove it a couple months ago on a 4 day camping trip in the mountains of NC and did about 1000 miles with out a hitch. I will say it prefers the back roads. Todays highway speeds are to fast for this low gearing. It runs smooth and no smoke or oil leaks on the concrete. I think because it spent a lot of it life in the south its pretty solid for a 47 year old vehicle. It has a few little rust issues that I took pictures of. Not a concern of mine. Maybe yours? I recently within the last year put some used vintage racing wheels I had on it. When I did this I got new White letter tires. new brake shoes. slave cylinders. nbsp;other brake components. nbsp;a 3 inch lift kit and gas shocks for the rear (to give it that aggressive stance). I re greased and replaced as needed the wheel bearings. and switched the left side lug studs to right hand thread. I also put a new fuel pump. alternator. and starter on it. It has new battery last week and I changed the oil also. When I got the van It was missing the carburetor. I bought a whole other motor just to get the carb from it. I rebuilt the carb. (the extra motor will be included in the auction to if you want it. ) (It has a chrome valve cover I was going to switch out but never have) The floors are very solid with an exception of one place where they where cut out and an aluminum plate was added. Seems to be done professionally. It looks to have been backed into something at one point. It has a little body filler in the rear right side. (pictured) and it has a later model rear bumper on it. Other then that the body is real straight. It has 2 cracked windows but minor cracks and they still function. I have covered them with stickers. The windshield is flat glass and both pieces have a crack down the middle. not an issue for view. I got it quoted to fix for $240. I didn't do it because it has an old inspection sticker from the mid 70s that might help figure out the history of this van. It is a 3 speed on the column. It shifts smooth and easy. The clutch feels tight. The brakes work good. All the headlights. brake lights and turn signals work perfect. The speedometer works. the Oil light works. The amp meter works The cigarette lighter works. The temp gauge. fuel gauge. and odometer don't work. Maybe an easy fix I haven't looked into it. never bothered me. I have used this thing for camping and hauling bikes around for awhile. I recently had a baby and it doesn't have a child seat area so its got to move on to a new owner. I also just put some shag carpeting in it before that last camping trip. So its new and doesn't smell all dingy. The front seats are in good condition and no tears or dry rot. It feels really crazy sitting way up front. Defiantly a cool ride! I can hold the Van here as long as you need as long as its paid for. It sits under my carport and can be picked up by you or a shipper at anytime. Again please look at all the pictures and read the entire description before you bid. Thanks for looking and Happy bidding!
