Fiat 500L 1972 RHD

I have for auction a superbly restored 1972 fiat 500L in original Coral Red. there are not many right hand drive models left and they are becoming harder and harder to locate. I have spent the last 12 months giving this classic little car a full nut and bolt restoration. this is probably one of the nicest and original right hand drive 500. you will find for sale at the moment it really is restored to show quality. there are no Abrath parts on this car it is just how fiat intended it to be when it rolled off the production line in 1972. I purchased the car from a friend who had owned it for 25 years but it had been stored away in his garage for the last 6 years. It still has the original engine and gearbox and has been repainted in its original Fiat colour Coral Red. I purchased the car for my daughter but due to her relocating the car is not practical for the driving she now has to do so I reluctantly have to move it on. I have spent a great deal of money on this little fiat and hundreds of hours. I have polished every single bolt with a wire brush on a drill and replaced every nut washer and screw with stainless steel. I have just had the car MOT done. I have listed below some of the work I have carried out on the car.

Exterior

 All glass removed bodywork has been made good flatted and repainted in original Coral Red 2 pack. the top coat mixed with lacquer to give it that extra shine. the floor and under arches have been painted with rubberised stone chip then painted in white.   The wheels have been blasted back to bare metal and powder coated and fitted with new chrome hub caps. Three of the tyres are the Pirelli and the other is a Michelin. New bonnet and boot rubbers and grommets fitted. new bonnet rubber mat.    

Chrome work

Front and rear bumpers including Lusso bars and bolts and rubbers are new. the original brackets have been Zinc plated. the original fiat door mirror and the door handles have been re chromed. new fiat badge and new stainless steel wiper blades and washer jets(and rubber piping) fitted. New chrome gutter mouldings fitted. New age related black and silver number plates fitted.

 Suspension/steering

All suspension stripped and repainted wishbone rubbers renewed. Four new shock absorbers and rubbers fitted. new leaf spring and retaining blocks. 4 x silent block rubbers. all nuts and washers replaced with stainless steel. steering box striped cleaned and rebuilt with new seals and gaskets. both outer track rod ends renewed. Steering idler replaced. New front wheel bearings.   

Brakes

The brake system has been completely renewed with the following parts Master cylinder. brake shoes. wheel cylinders. brake pipes. flexible hoses.

Interior

The car still sports the original black vinyl seats that are in superb condition. I have stripped the front seats and repainted the frames. the interior carpet is also original but had faded so I have dyed it back to its original black. the heater ducts/gear lever and carpet sill strips and steering wheel have been re painted as have the metal frames for the sunroof which also has a new roof vinyl fitted. New heater hoses fitted. New under bonnet matt and engine compartment heat shield. the pedal bracket has been stripped and re painted.

Lighting

All the lights have been renewed including the rear light clusters front indicator lamps. the headlamps(genuine Carello) and rear number plate lamps have been replaced.  the Chrome look number plate lamp has also been renewed.

Engine/gearbox

Completely stripped down to bare block. new timing chain and gears fitted. cylinder head fitted with new valve guides. seats and valves re cut. engine re built with new seals and gaskets fitted. engine re painted with heat resistant paint. all tin ware re painted in black heat resistant paint. New engine mounting rubbers. new engine mounting spring. exhaust heat shield replaced. Large rubber air intake hose replaced.   Gearbox stripped cleaned and new gaskets fitted. New mounting rubbers and gear selector shaft joining rubber replaced. /p>

Fuel

Fuel tank cleaned and repainted. New fuel lines. clips/filter/fuel pump fitted. carburettor stripped cleaned new filter/needle valve/washers and gaskets fitted. accelerator brackets zinc plated.

Ignition/electrics

New plugs/points/condenser/distributor cap and rotor arm/plug leads. all new bulbs and flasher unit. Dynamo refurbed new pulley fitted.  

As you can see by the above and the pictures this is a very nice car that has had all the parts that may need replacing with age replaced already. As you probably know if you have read the advert until the end these cars are a great investment (and tax exempt). You will see a lot of these cars that have had a quick lick of paint and are advertised as excellent condition. I have taken several photographs of the underneath so you can see the depth of the restoration  I am a qualified mechanic and have 36 years experience and take great pride in my work.   I am going to let it run till the end of auction so please don't ask for a buy it now price. if you would like to view the car before bidding please give me a call on 07950938466.
