- This car was manufactured on April 19th 1972 as a right hand drive model finished in Alfa Red. and was invoiced by the factory to Alfa Romeo London the following day. - The car was sold new and first registered in England on June 13th 1972. - Bearing the desirable registration number BEV-1 the GTV remained with its first owner in St. Neots. Cambridgeshire. until July 1978 when ownership passed to a Gentleman in Herne Hill. London. SE24. According to MOT certificates on file from around this time. the recorded mileage at the time of sale would have been about 14. 00 miles. - A copy of an article from Motor Magazine dated September 1981 shows the Alfa Romeo being tested by the magazine for a classic car report. It had been loaned to them by the hugely respected and well known Alfa Romeo restorer Richard Banks. The recorded mileage was mentioned in the article as being around 30. 00. a statement backed up by MOT certificates on file. - The Webasto sunroof which the car still retains was present in the Motor Magazine photographs. so one can imagine that this popular accessory of the day was fitted when the car was either new or within the very early years of its long life. - Richard Banks found the car a new owner in Cramlington. Northumberland. in October 1981 who seems to have only retained the car for a short time before passing it onto another Gentleman who appears not to have registered it in their name. There is a letter on file dated June 1983 from a Mr Williams of Kidderminster. Worcestershire (this unrecorded owner) to the next owner Robert King wishing them "every success" with their new purchase and asking for the opportunity of purchasing it back when they decide to sell it. The recorded mileage at this time would have been about 34. 00 miles. - Mr King was to start a new chapter of this special low mileage cars life by retaining the car for the following eighteen years. MOT certificates on file during his ownership indicate his annual mileage in the car averaged about 500 miles a year. with as few as 200 hundred being covered in some years and as many as 1. 00 miles in others. - In October 2001 Mr King passed ownership to his Nephew. Captain King. The recorded mileage at this time was still only about 43. 00 miles. Captain King clearly had different views of classic car ownership to his Uncle and pressed the GTV into regular use. - Captain King retained the car until July 2005 when ownership passed to the Gentleman who we purchased it from. The recorded mileage at this time was about 70. 00 miles. - The majority of the previous MOT certificates and expired tax discs are within the large history file. the earliest MOT certificate dating from October 1977 when the mileage was recorded as being 12. 45 miles. - The previous owner to us kept a spreadsheet record of all the works he had done to both the mechanicals (including fitting modified suspension and exhaust system) and the body of the car. and there is also a CD of photographs documenting the light body restoration that the car has benefitted from. A full repaint was carried out to a very high standard in April 2010 and the car now presents itself extremely well. - This is a superb car with an excellent history and is ready to be enjoyed.
