Hello and welcome to our listing for a 1948 Chevrolet 6400 chassis cab. I bought this a few years ago with the intention of making a beavertail truck to carry another pickup to shows. etc. It would make a neat rod/drag car hauler for sure. Anyway. now and again we get time to do a few bits and pieces but looks like we'll never get round to doing what we wanted to do.
It is UK reg. is MOT exempt and is legally driven on a normal car licence. I think it's gross allowed weight is 6. 8 tonnes. but as it is MOT exempt. it can be driven on any normal car licence. even if you do not have the 7. 5 t category on it.
It runs. drives and stops but needs a full restoration. Engine is a 250 cu in straight six petrol which has developed a knock from the bottom end. but most folks will want to ditch it and fit a Cummins diesel or similar. Brakes need a pump up and handbrake mechanism is missing from the propshaft.
The chassis has been cleaned back to bare metal and painted with Hammerite brown primer. Cab interior has been mostly cleaned back to bare metal and will need some localised welding to floor pans. nothing serious. Front tyres are brand new. rears are shot. Most of the glass is shot too. but it's cheap and readily available.
Look at it as needing a full resto minus the hard dirty work of cleaning back all the chassis. and create your own hot rod hauler. Needs a lot of work. but it's for sale here cheaper than an equivalent condition/year pickup and these cost a fortune to transport within the States. then ship over here.
The last few pics show a '55 GMC pickup and a '39/40 Ford COE with V 8 flathead which are both currently en route from California. COE due end of September. the GMC has just loaded so will be end October.
I am not currently looking for any swaps or part-ex's. No offers. it's cheap enough considering the shipping costs involved.
The 1939 Ford COE has arrived! Will list it when I take more pics and have the chance to inspect it.
Although we are based in Central Scotland. please do not let this be an issue for you as I pride myself on my descriptions and must add that on my other accounts and via magazines. I have never ever failed to sell a car to the first person who travels to see it! If you know what you are looking for. and do decide to come and see. I can assure you the car will be as described here. There is no point in me telling lies about a car. as. quite simply. when you come and see it. you will not buy it if it's not as described. so. a big waste of time for me and a waste of time and money for you. I have no wish to deceive any potential buyer. I've been on the receiving end of that in the past. travelling many hundreds of miles to see something very much different from what was described to me. I aim to change that as a business seller. I'd rather gain a new friend and not sell you a car than sell you something and make a new enemy!! I am an enthusiast first and business man second.
If you want to come and look. I can pick you up at Edinburgh Airport. or Linlithgow or Falkirk rail stations and return you after your visit. I can arrange delivery for you at your cost. London area is about £360 incl VAT as an example.

Sorry to do this folks. but I must add a note here for people who may not think some things through properly. I cannot and will not take a swap on anything. To explain. you want to swap me something. therefore yours is available for sale here in the UK. Why would I go to the bother of buying a vehicle unseen in the USA. take the chance that the seller may rip me off. spend money shipping it. unload the container. pay all the duties. VAT. etc. then simply swap it for something I could have bought here without going to all that bother. not to mention my money being tied up for at least three months awaiting the arrival. This is a business. you go to work to earn your wages so you can eat. etc. I sell imports to do the same. Swaps do not put food on the table. I hope all reading understand where I'm coming from with this. I keep my prices tight so can't pay over the odds for a trade in either. remember I'm the dealer. I can't drop my price to break even then pay you retail for a trade in. no vehicle sales business will ever do that. it's financial suicide. If you want to give me a trade in. I will talk to you. BUT. my price is firm in that case and your trade must be of a cost that I can make something on it too. I also wont take a trade of something I can't sell. 'cause if you've been trying to sell it and can't. then I can't either. simple really. I prefer to deal on a straight sale basis. I write this as I am getting fed up with many e-mail and phone conversations. followed by sending lots of pics. etc to interested parties. only to find that after a few days of time wasting. all they really want to do is swap me for something of lower value or something they have had no luck trying to sell. Don't get me wrong. if after a few days of talks and pics. you decide my vehicle isn't for you. that's no problem. that's not time wasting (as long as you didn't tell me it was definitely for you then change your mind!). Many thanks for reading and understanding.
