Chrysler / Talbot Sunbeam 1.6 GLS 1980

Sunbeam 1. 6 GLS. first registered 1st April 1980.
Crossover Chrysler/Talbot model - Chrysler badge on grille. skinny Talbot badge on bonnet.

I have owned this car since 1995.

I had restoration work done in 1999. full respray in a Moonstone similar paint (original paint was Moonstone - see spare wheel bay pic). renewed brake pipes and components. suspension bushes. steering rack. uprated road suspension (Spax adjustables rear. Leda road struts front). ti strengthened rear arms. new vinyl roof (as per orginal fitment).   Rest of car is  completely standard GLS setup. no mods to engine/carb/exhaust.   There was some work done to cylinder head to make it OK for unleaded. can't remember exact details of the work.   New wings were fitted. old ones weren't rotten just a little bent. other minor repairs were made to bodywork before respray.   Secure locks fitted to driver/passenger doors.

After restoration car was used for a few years and then ended up stored for some time. then a bit longer. then longer still. until finally I realised it needs to go to a better home.

Purchased new battery recently. changed oil. but fuel was old - nevertheless it started first time.   Car has been SORN'd for some time so not been on a run. no current MOT or Tax.

A few rust spots have developed whilst in storage. just seems a bit 'scabby' in places.   Worse bit seems to be around bonnet hinge mounts - only surface though.   I have photographed the places where this seems relevant.   Other than that all parts are there that should be. no panels required. electrics all working - interior is in excellent condition. including rear parcel shelf.   Seats were swapped at restoration time for Series 2 seats in same trim. due to the series 2 front seats sliding forward when tilted for rear access.

I also have a couple of boxes (nice solid plastic crates actually) of spares that I have put together that I will bundle with car. these contain. among other items - diagnostic equipment. spare 6 dial dash. spare trim. handbrake cables. clutch cable. carb refurb kit. brake cylinder repair kit. full engine gasket set. brake pads and shoes. oil filter. spark plugs. thermostats and housing. some bearings and oil seals. and other bits and bobs.

A very original Sunbeam that deserves a caring owner.

As mentioned prviously. this is currently SORN'd and neither taxed nor MOT'd. so pickup will need to be arranged - I am unable to arrange delivery.

A question was asked by somebody. 'what would be needed to pass an MoT?' - this car has never had an issue passing MoT's but due to it having been standing for some time I would certainly recommend a service of the brakes - as for anything else. nothing obvious comes to mind. it all appears to be in good working order. There has certainly never been any welding required. Inspections are welcome. by appointment.
