Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 676 votes
First of all. this is a VERY BIG car.  And secondly. this car is from an era when fuel economy was a term unlikely to be in the vocabulary of those who conceived it; I would imagine it returns around 8 mpg at best.
This is the first model year of the Lincoln Continental Mark IV and by far the best looking version; it has the purest styling. which is devoid of the utterly hideous energy absorbing bumpers so beloved of American legislators from 1973 onwards.
I have owned this car since June 2006 and in that time I have driven less than 500 miles. For the past four and half years the car was in storage and in June 2013 I put the car back on the road. A good clean. some fresh fuel and it fired pretty much immediately. The car then passed its MOT test with no advisories and since then I have enjoyed a few trips with friends; the car has seat belts for six.
The car is not concours but is a very good useable classic American car. it is now some 41 years old and this must be remembered; it is most definitely not a new car.
The car has been repainted at sometime when it was in the US and whilst extremely presentable. there are few areas that require some minor attention. most notably the LH front wing where a tyre blew-out and the carcass made a number of marks on the paint. There are a few other areas with stone chips and marks but overall the condition is very much better than its 41 years would suggest. The car has a patina which is entirely appropriate and I have never been tempted to restore it.
The car is solid with only some very small areas of surface corrosion; a testimony to it spending most of its life in Texas until it was shipped here in 2004.
The chrome on the car (of which there is lots!) I would say is in excellent condition for its age. There is some pitting and some very small areas of corrosion. with a few small scrapes. but there is no flaking. The aluminium trim has dings. marks and scratches. but again. it is in very good condition for its age.
The vehicle lighting has been modified to satisfy UK requirements and has very discreet rear amber indicators fitted. These can be easily removed and the turn signals returned to the flashing red if required.
The car has power windows. power seats. power antenna. power boot lid opening.
The power locks are inoperative and the climate control does not work. It can output lots of heat however!
The passenger side rear sliding window does not work. however the previous owner advised me the motor did work and he thought it probable the rear switch was faulty. There is a replacement switch to accompany the vehicle.
The dash-top is cracked as result of the Texas heat.
The original rim-blow steering wheel was removed as the horn switch was broken. A Grant wood rim steering wheel is now fitted and the original (cracked) steering wheel will come with the car.
During my ownership a new carburettor. new radiator. new harmonic balancer and a new steering box have been fitted. In addition. following the tyre blow-out. four new Cooper white sidewall tyres were fitted which have approximately 500 miles on them.
The alloy wheels are in very good condition. The spare wheel is a Cragar steel spoke which I purchased new to replace the damaged original.
The car is showing c. 21200 miles but I would imagine it has been around the clock and thus the mileage cannot be verified.
The car drives very well and is a joy to cruise around in.
Please. no tyre-kickers or time-wasters.
Payment to me made by cash or by bank transfer only. The vehicle will not be released until funds have cleared in my bank.
