In 1948. Dodge introduced a new truck line. The first new design since 1939 came in 1948 with the Pilot House models. They represented a milestone for the company.   In fact. many recognize this B-series as being the most advanced truck in its era.

The B-series pickup trucks were sold from 1948-1953.   They replaced the prewar Dodge.   The B-1-B were 1/2 ton trucks standard with a 95 hp L-head straight six engine. The B-series trucks featured a high-visibility "pilot house" cab with optional rear quarter windows. The engine was shifted forward and the front axle moved back on the frame for better weight distribution as well as a shorter wheelbase (108 in).   The cargo bed sides were made higher to increase capacity by 40%.   The redesigned cab could seat three people. (remember. the average man in 1948 weighed 135 pounds).   The cab was mounted on rubber mounts for an improved ride.   The redesigned  axle steering design made for a tighter turning radius. this cross-steering innovation helped this B-series stand out from their competition.

Continuing to sell off my collection of drivers and projects.   Up for your consideration is my rare 1948 "Pilot House" 1/2 ton pickup.   The truck was driven daily up until two years ago and then stored in my shop.   My employees ran it out of gas and I have had to clean fuel lines. replace filters and fuel screen.   The truck will start if you prime the carburetor but will not draw gas from the tank.   Carburetor needs to be cleaned and rebuilt. There is almost no rust in this sweet ride.   I noticed a few bubbles started inside the bed above the boards  I am sure that there has been work on the truck in the past but my magnet failed to find any bondo or filler. The truck has had an older restoration and paint and while shows nice. it is a "driver" with a lot of potential. You can assume that the odometer has turned over at least once. but that is just an educated guess.

I could not get the truck over 50 as it came with a granny gear that would pull stumps all day without stalling.   I replaced this with a late model charger rear but original gearing and housing comes with the truck.   The rear glass and seals are in excellent shape.   The door window glass is starting to frost along the bottom edges but there are no cracks or broken glass.   The B-1-B has an electo-mechanical starter on the floor and it will need rebuilding. it works but is in bad shape.   The battery box cover is in need of a little attention as is the cab carpet.   The rear-view mirror is loose on its mounting points and needs to be replaced.   The gauges in the dash need replacing as they are old and discolored.   Another set will go with the truck but the new owner may want to upgrade.   This is a deluxe cab and came with a push button radio.   The radio in the dash is a "Dummy" with just the head of an original radio installed.   I do have another complete radio which will go with the truck.   This radio works and with a little work. the front tuner section can be swapped with the one in the dash.

The truck rode and drove well until parked.   I would definitely go through the brakes and a tune up before driving this old beauty too far.   As with any vehicle of this age. I recommend that you personally inspect this truck before bidding if possible.   I have described the truck  as accurately as I can but please feel free to ask any questions via eBay or cell.  I can provide more pictures if needed.   The truck is an original numbers matching vehicle and would be welcome in anyone's collection.  The truck is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early if a local sale occurs. Georgia is not a TITLE State and the truck will come with a Bill of Sale and inspection as well as any paperwork the successful bidder needs to meet their state requirements.

The successful bidder is responsible for all shipping expenses and I can help load.   Depending on mileage. I can possibly deliver  for $2 a mile.   The 20 plus vehicles I am selling will be sold for the actual amounts that I have in each vehicle.   Bid accordingly as this is a chance to pick up one of these B-1-B's at a very good price; well below the average going price.
