1971 Volvo Other E for sale
Current customer rating: (311 votes ) based onThis is an extremely nice and well taken care of California Volvo 1800 E. It has always been in California. This Volvo is in excellent condition with great Volvo/Jensen styling. It gets attention everywhere it goes! It is in a truly awesome original exterior/interior color combo. It has not been modified and is in stock. factory condition. This car is in great condition and not like your typical one of these. The original California blue license plates are no longer with the car.
Vehicle Description:
There is no rust through on this body as you would expect on a true California car. The floors. doors. and the quarter panels are original. You can still see the original paint and sound deadening material in the rear trunk hatch area. The original spot welds are also visible. The VIN Plates in the driver's side door jam. a-pillar. and front radiator/fender are all present and; these all match. Additional things you should know to wet your appetite even more about this cool ride:
Original California Car - This means it is from a rust free climate. These were notoriously known for rust issues and many have not survived. Original Documentation - There are tons of original repair and service maintenance records included. I mean like a 3” stack of documents. Ownership History – I purchased this from what I believe was the second owner. The previous owner purchased it 1976. Bill of Sale - The last bill of sale is included. It documents the original issued CA blue license plates on it. How cool is that?! Standard equipment on this Volvo Includes:Fuel InjectionElectric OverdriveReclining Bucket SeatsPower Assisted Four-wheel Disc BrakesElectric Rear DefrostDeluxe Trim & Carpet with Locking ConsolePlus much more. i. e. Added A/C!
Exterior/Interior/Mechanical Condition:
The paint is in nice condition. It is an older respray and was repainted/restored in the original color (#105). This car has been very well cared for. It does have some paint imperfections. but I would rate it between a 7-8. Some of the bright work was redone during the respray and it's in great condition. These cars are notorious for rust especially in the lower rockers and lower front fenders. Rust repairs in these areas can be the most expensive part of restoring one of these. The factory wheels were recently restored and they look great in my opinion.
The interior is also in great condition. The front seats have been reupholstered and the recaro style chrome hinges are in excellent condition. The rear seat and headliner are also in great condition as well. All gauges work except the clock and the oil pressure gauge. The radio also does not work along with the drive side window mechanism. The upper and lower dash were replaced and are in very nice condition with no cracks. This is typically a very expensive repair to replace these.
This vehicle runs and drives. The engine is a rebuilt one with extensive maintenance documentation. The previous owner kept meticulous documentation on all maintenance repairs including some maintenance logs. Like most cars of this age. it does leave a few drops of oil on the ground and it is a little cold blooded. Volvo purists know these cars run for a long time. Most Volvo aficionados are also aware of a similar 1800 S (Coupe) that has been driven for 3+ million miles! It is not uncommon to find these with very high miles and still going.
A couple of other minor things to note; The A/C blower blows; however. the heater does not work. Also. the windshield reservoir is included. but it is missing the bracket. I will include a brand new set of beauty trim rings as the original ones in the photos were not a complete set and do not go with the car. There is a dent in the right rear qtr panel. The front grille surround was also recently re-chromed and in great condition. The previous owner was a HAM operator and audiophile. This is why the trunk was built out and there are still some of the speakers/wires left in the car.
Note: The blue license plate on the photos were used for pictures only in some photos and not included as they are not for this Volvo. I just like them better in some of the photos. For CA residents you can put these back on if you find a clear set and change them to YOM plates.
Other info to know about this vehicle and this auction:
Please keep in mind this is a 46 year old collector car. I am not going to say it does not need anything; as I am not an expert and everyone is subject to their opinion and level of perfection. It does have your typical wear and tear for a car of this age. It does need a few things as I mentioned. I am not a mechanical expert and I have described it to the best of my knowledge. This car has been in California it's entire time. It is on a clean California title in my name. There is no warranty on it and it is sold as is.
About the P1800 and the Saint:
This was Volvo's first sports car in 1961. Leave it to Volvo to only improve over time with this awesomely designed car. The later ones are even more desirable as they introduced fuel injection and 4 wheel disc brakes in 1970 along with more horsepower. This one has all of these highly desirable features. This car also is pretty rare as production for all 1800's was less than 47. 92 units over 13 years of production. The E's were only produced in ‘70-72 making this a fairly rare car. The coupe version of this vehicle became very well known in the same exterior color and was driven by Simon Templar (with license plate ST1). played by Roger Moore; and was featured in the TV series The Saint beginning in 1962 and played a prominent role throughout the entire run of the show.
