SELLER REMARKS

This 1948 Buick Super is the right way to do a resto-mod. and better yet. it's still Buick powered! One of the most dazzling designs of the '40s. the big Buick features a 455 big block under the hood. a custom tan leather interior. and all the modern conveniences. It only took 60 years. but this big Buford finally has the moves to match its style.

Buick was actually ahead of the curve following the war. as their styling was all-new in 1942. giving them a big leg-up on the competition. The dramatic. sweeping fender lines. which are especially effective on the convertibles. were a home-run. giving them the impression of power and speed; even today. you can see echoes of that fender line on modern Buicks. The medium red paint looks suitable for a flashy 1940s ragtop. and the finish work is quite good. with a fantastic shine that highlights all those dazzling curves. The massive hood opens from either side yet fits tightly and neatly. the doors open and close easily. and details like the taillights inset into the fenders almost look like they were done by an artistic customizer. There is. of course. a ton of chrome. all of which is in good condition and works well with the car's overall look.

Buicks were famous for luxury and performance. and in 1948. they were equipped with every modern convenience GM could offer. including hydraulic windows and top. Well. this car keeps the power windows and top. and adds upgrades like a tilt steering column with the original wheel on top. air conditioning. and an automatic transmission in place of the original 3-speed manual. Soft tan leather is a lot more comfortable than the original stuff and fits over the original seats using a pattern that looks very correct. The original instruments are in the dash and tuned to work with the upgraded V8 and the center stack still houses the original Sonomatic AM radio. A tan top stows with the touch of a button and hides under a matching boot while still leaving a spacious back seat with room for three. The trunk is upholstered in the same materials. and includes a full-sized spare tire.

The original 248 cubic inch straight-8 was smooth. but it had nothing on the burly 455 Buick that lives under the hood today. Proudly wearing Buick valve covers. this torquey big block moves the vintage ragtop effortlessly and with genuine authority: think GS instead of Dynaflow. Power steering was added along with a modern front suspension and disc brakes. and a dual exhaust system has a muted rumble that sounds like an iron fist in a silk glove. A TH400 3-speed automatic and a 10-bolt rear on the original leaf springs mean it's reliable and comfortable at modern highway speeds. The frame looks strong enough to support a railroad bridge. and the floors have never been rusty. Steel wheels with trim rings and original BUICK hubcaps (neat trick!) wear whitewall radials that are just about the only visual clue that there's more to this Buick than meets the eye.

Beautifully built and thrilling to drive. this is the kind of resto-mod that even David Dunbar Buick would love. Call today!
