1962 VOLKSWAGEN CONVERTIBLE - 1200cc 40HP
I bought this car last year from the owner of almost 40 years. It was purchased for her by her father as her first car and they purchased from the original owner. Car had been stored for over 20 years and my 35 year experienced VW mechanic from a well-known San Diego CA shop did the following work:
Removed and cleaned out gas tank installed new fuel sender gauge with new fuel linesRebuilt Carburetor New starter installedAdjust valves. retorque lower cylinder heads set timing. new belt. new 12V regulator and Interstate BatteryNew shifter bushing. new axle boots. all 4 wheel cylinders replaced. new rubber brake lines. repack front wheel bearingsEverything was adjusted. tuned and correctly installed so all lights. blinkers and electrical items work on this car.
Top has a 6 inch tear which I was told could be repaired. headliner is in great condition. seats (while not matching) are in good shape as well as door panels. All windows go up and down. as well as top which comes with a top cover. The wheels I was told are Porsche 356 wheels and the chrome is mostly in very good condition. Paint is either original or repaint but 30 years old so looks good from 10 feet away but has a nice patina of pitting and cracking.
Rust; the drivers rear has been repaired with new metal but not welded properly and the passenger seems to be weak as well or that was the battery box area. Otherwise the car has a solid pan and I could not find any evidence of being in a front or rear accident. Previous owner said she babied the car; oil changes every 3. 00 miles. washed it every weekend etc. She mentioned it had not been in an accident.
The VIN on body and Engine ID are faded so I can not provide but I was able to make out the Chassis Number (see pic) and the Title reflects the same number. Previous owner mentioned the engine had been rebuilt and while I can confirm it is a 1200cc motor; I cannot confirm it is original to the car.
This car starts on the first twist of the key and runs and drives amazing. My mechanic who is usually very matter-of-fact; called me on his cell while driving the car on a test ride and said "I may not be back for a while; this car drives great and is so much fun". My plans were to do a complete rotisserie but my daughters college education is coming first and I have begun selling some of my classic cars. This car will come with a clean Oregon title dated from 1986.
I have explained this car to the best of my knowledge. I encourage you to come and see the car and inspect for your self or have a private inspection. I will make the car available at my home for inspection. This is a 55 year old car so it has its creaks and leaks' which is what makes owning a classic so amazing.
