Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.1) based on 470 votes

This is a real. numbers-matching 1965 Mustang K-code coupe.   Although not restored to show condition. it's an exceptionally clean driver. and I'm setting a reasonable reserve.   As is well-documented. K-codes were the highest-performing Mustangs (except for Shelby's. which are based on K-codes). and as such were not offered with power steering. power brakes or air-conditioning. since those items rob engine power.   And in 1965. K-codes were also not offered with automatic transmissions.   In other words. it's a bare-bones car compared to other Mustangs. with a lot of room in the engine bay.   The whole point of the car was engine power. and K-codes comprised only about 1% of all Mustangs sold in 1965.

VIN: 5R07K212283

Door Tag:  Trim 65A. Color  C. Interior 26. Date 21R . DSO 71. Axle 5. Transmission 5

I've had this car for over four years. have clear title in hand. and have driven it gently while doing minor stock upgrades.   It drives and handles very well. and the throttle is very responsive at about 50-55 mph.  It never runs hot. even when the temperature reaches the high nineties.   The only hiccup of which I'm aware of is an occasional “grind” of the starter. but it's very infrequent. and the second turn of the key starts it up.  Upgrades during my ownership include installing stock 2” dual-exhaust (from Virginia Classic Mustang). correctly stamped belts and hoses. a new battery. performing routine maintenance (oil. plugs. brake fluid. etc. ). and having professional carb work done (see below).   I have four reproduction dual-redline bias-ply tires with spinner hubcaps for shows and such. but generally drive around on BF Goodrich Radial T/A's mounted on Cragars. due to better stability compared to bias-ply.  Both sets of wheels and tires come with the car.  Per the previous owner when the car was sold to me. the motor was rebuilt at just over 75. 00 miles. and all Hi-Po parts were photo documented. I bought this car in July. 2009. with 78. 92 miles. and it now has 80. 09 miles on the odometer (believed actual mileage).   Many of the details below are based on statements from the previous owner. nbsp;and I have no reason to doubt them.   I've visually verified the VIN on the body. the engine block and transmission. and the distinctive sounds of the solid lifters are audible.   Overall. the car runs and drives great.

Drive Train Specifications:

- Block: C5AE-6015. Casting Date 2/3/65. Assembly Date: 3/9/65. VIN stamped on passenger side.

- Hi-Po Heads: Correct  Original . both dated 2/16/65. with the number “20” casted on each.

- Hi-Po Carb: Please read fully.   The core is a C8ZF- J. which per the previous owner is the correct service replacement carb purchased NOS. and installed in 3/08.  I had it professionally rebuilt in spring 2013 by Kurt Praxl of “Carbontooters-KP Carbs”. the successor to Pony Carbs. to ensure that it is completely to spec including use of correct 52F and 68F jets.   I also had it re-stamped to C50F-J. and ordered a C50F-J tag from Marti.   It's a clone. but it's a technically accurate one.

- Transmission: Correct Original HEH-T Hi-Po Top Loader 4spd. VIN Stamped.

- Distributor: Correct Original C5OF- 12127. dual point distributor dated 2/65.

- Rear End: Correct Original 65 unit (tapered ends).   Currently running 3. 25:1 gears (1969 center section. detailed and painted).   The original 3:50:1 gears come with the car. dated  3/17/65.  NOTE:  I have made no changes or detailed investigations of the rear end. at all. and I'm passing along information given to me.   The gears come with the car. just as they came to me.

- Exhaust manifolds: The car currently has an old (possibly original?) set of Tri-Y Headers on it.  The original but restored exhaust manifolds come with the car.

- Suspension: Vehicle had new upper control arm bushings. ball joints installed and alignment performed March 08. prior to my ownership.

- Other items:  Per the previous owner. the car has all of its 1965 K code parts: correct  main bearing caps. Hi-Po cam. balancer. solid lifters. intake. fan. timing chain cover. motor mounts. snubber bumper and steering box.

- Body : All panels with the exception of the driver's door and right front fender are original. and all are rust free.   The car retains all of its original glass. and has new weather stripping on both the rear window & windshield (9/08).   The stainless was polished at that time.   (Unfortunately. the glass was apparently also polished at that time. and shows scratches.   I've lived with it. but want you to know. )  The car came from the factory in Honey Gold with a Black standard interior. and I'm told was painted black in the 1980's.   Although most people give the black paint oohs and aahs. it's a driver-quality paint job with scratches and chips (touched up) in several areas.   There is a small dimple in the trunk lid.

For parents. please note that it does not come with rear seat belts (not required in 1965).  Although built after the introduction of the GT package. this car was not ordered with that option.  This car has a Custom Auto Sound AM/FM/MP3 stereo designed to look like the original. and a dual-speaker disguised as a single-speaker in the dash.   I have a shop manual and a couple of Mustang authentication books which will be included.

Please send me an email if you have any questions.  And if you're in the Northern Virginia area. I will be happy to show the car to serious prospective buyers.   No low-ballers. please.  In case you're wondering. I'm just selling it due to shifting priorities.   The car is being sold as is. where is. with no warranty. expressed or implied.   It is the sole responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle and bid accordingly.   I am retaining the right to end the auction at anytime due to it being for sale locally.
