AUSTIN BURNHAM 16/6 1931

 1931 AUSTIN BURNHAM 16/6 (Betty) that I bought in 1993.   It took me over 2 years travelling around the country to find one in such good condition.   Although it is not Concours condition it is a very sound car in very good overall condition and it has won numerous prizes and awards at rallies and shows.   It still has all of the original deluxe additions fitted to the 16/6 model i. e. bumpers. sun visor. wire wheels and picnic tables etc.

Over the time I have owned it it has done less than 5. 00 miles and has always been kept in a dry garage with dust sheets over it.   Before I bought the Burnham it had a lot of work done to it and a considerable amount of money spent on it.   The interior was completely refurbished i. e. the seats recover in hide leather. the side panels/map pockets redone and the headlining replaced.   The body has been re-sprayed.   The person I bought the car from ran a wedding business so the car was exclusively for wedding so makes an excellent wedding car.   I did numerous weddings when I first owned the car until my business "overtook" me.

I have spent a lot of money on the Burnham over the years.   In 2002 the wings were re-sprayed and all of the bright parts re-chromed.   In the same year all of the suspension bushes and the clutch were replaced by an Austin Specialist.   After "laying up" the Burnham for a couple of years. in 2010 it was re-commissioned and I had the top end of the engine and the Autovac refurbished by another Austin Specialist.

As with all classic cars there is always room for improvements.   With the Burnham the scuttle and bonnet could do with a re-spray as there are a few blisters in the paintwork (although it shines and looks OK).   There is a leak from the gland on the water pump which needs repacking.

I do have some history of the car from the 1964 owner and a photo of it at that time together with a green continuation log book with three owners in it.   There are MOT certificates from 1987 to authenticate the mileage from that time.   The is taxed and is now exempt from the MOT test.   However. the car has only done 43 miles since the last MOT in June 2011.  

I will be very sorry to see Betty go but you can see from the details that I am not using the car and this is the reason I am selling her.   I hope someone will buy her who can spare the time to use her on a regular basis which is the way she should be used.
