OUTLAW 912 PROJECT CAR. ALMOST FINISHED NEEDS SOME MINOR JOBS DOING

Well its with a sad decision I have to part with my dream 912 coupe due to being out of work at present. This is a LHD 1968 model 5 clock dash with a 5 speed gearbox. Sand beige 6607. US import in 2007 from Long Beach. California. UK registered with a V5 and Tax Exempt. Last MOT was dec 2008 with mileage of 118. 0.

912 Outlaw project. I bought the car in may 2008 and drove the 912 over the summer before starting to restore the car. My build plans were to reduce the cars weight and improve the cars braking and engine performance but still allow the car to have a period look. The car needs only a minor amount of finishing work to make this car an exceptional classic porsche.

ENGINE

The engine is very good and I have fitted new 1720cc barrel and pistons. I'm also including in the sale a new vacuum 009 dizzy. rocker gaskets and adjusters and a rare period racing exhaust manifold. I have removed the twin carburators (weber 36 IDFs) because they need rejetting and balancing so the engine at present is not running. The 901 gearbox is very smooth and 1st and reverse change perfectly.

BRAKES AND SUSPENSION

Uprated CSP drilled front discs fitted with all round s/s hoses fitted. I have upgraded the front brakes to period 4 pot callipers and fitted a upper strut brace. The original front callipers are included if you want to change the brakes to stock. 73 RS dual master cylinder fitted. All that's needs doing are the rear callipers rebuilding and the brake pipes fitting.

GLASS AND INTERIOR

When I started the restoration I removed all the trim seals and glass. I have fitted the front windscreen with a new seal and fitted the original aluminium trim. I have also fitted a new rear screen seal but the rear screen trim needs fitting to make the seal water tight. The side glass needs new trim seals and the door glass lifters are not fitted and need reinstalling.

Overall the interior is really good. I have fitted all new RS spec carpet. new accelerator pedal and aluminium foot pads to give a more race appeal. The seats are in good condition and are finished in light grey vinyl. The passager seat tilt mechanism is broken but there is a replacement tilt mechanism included in the spares. The headling is really good with only wear damage being the area above the drivers door. The dash board is really good. The car has 1 key that's fits the door locks and ignition. All the clocks are good but the painted strips around the bezels have slight surface rust. however the steering wheel is not original and is frayed. I was going to keep the steering wheel boss and install a aftermarket 3 spoke steering wheel. Also there are no seat belts fitted. my intention was to fit bucket type seats with 3 point belts.

BODYWORK AND ELECS

The chassis has been welded and is rot free and has been rust proofed. The sills are perfect and still have the original jacking points. The car had been resprayed red at some point in its life in california. I have restored the body work back to sand beige. There are some age related marks and the paint has marks and has worn thin in a couple of places from having the car stored in a car cocoon in my garage. The cocoon car cover has gone very tight and stiff causing the marks. The paint is really good with a deep shine and the marks are so fine they didn't show up when I photographed the car. I am quiet happy with the paint work. The car also has correct US spec gold rear script and early porsche bonnet crest.

When I drove the car in 2008 all the electrics worked fine. The US lights were always very poor and I have made a start on fitting euro spec 356 headlights with 2nd hand clear front indicators. These will need the electrics doing as well as adjusting. Also included with the car is a set of 67 R fibreglass clusters and a set of porsche racing tow brackets. I think I've covered everything. viewing is recommended before the auction end.
