The 1965 full-sized Pontiacs were completely restyled with more
flowing bodywork featuring 'Coke-bottle' profiles and fastback
rooflines on two-door hardtops. Wheelbases increased to 121 inches
on all models. A new three-speed Turbo Hydramatic automatic gearbox
replaced the previous Roto Hydramatic unit. The 'Turbo' was a
three-speed torque converter unit similar in basic design to
Chrysler's Torqueflite; a move that made torque converter
automatics the universal design for shiftless transmissions and
relegated the original fluid-coupling Hydramatic to history.
Although the 'Turbo' transmission continued to use the Hydramatic
name. it shared none of its design with the older transmission. For
1967 the '65 Pontiac Catalina body received a heavy facelift -
featuring integral bumpers and grilles. more rounded wasp-waisted
body contours including a crisp horizontal beltline crease;
other new design traits were flare sculpturing between the doors
and rear wheel openings along with concealed windshield wipers - an
industry first. Replacing the 389 and 421 V8s of previous years
were the new 400 and 428 cubic-inch V8s built off the same Pontiac
V8 design which had been in use since 1955. The standard Catalina
engine was a two-barrel unit rated at 265hp with a three-speed
manual gearbox or 290 horsepower with Turbo Hydramatic gearbox.
Optional engines included a four-barrel 400 rated at 325
horsepower. a four-barrel 428 rated at 360 horsepower or the
four-barrel 428 HO rated at 376 horsepower. Front disc brakes and
8-track stereo tape player were new additions to the option
list.

This 1967 Pontiac Catalina 'Wide Track' Convertible was imported
to the UK in 2011 from Texas. USA. accompanied by a full service
history showing it was first used in California and has been fully
maintained all its life. Restored to a very high standard within
the last ten years. the car is painted in burgundy with a black
interior. Fitted with the large 6. 6 litre. 400ci engine and the
Turbo Hydramatic automatic three speed gearbox. this car also has
power front brakes ensuring it can stop as well as it goes! Also
fitted are the standard features of a fully disappearing power roof
and power assisted steering and after market cruise control and
custom alloy wheels were added when the car was restored. It is
supplied with a V5C registration document. MoT test certificate
which expires in August 2014. owner's handbook. a book on the
operation of the power hood. a Texas registration certificate. a
file containing the service history of the car including the
service book and invoices going back to the 1960's together with a
set of the original steel wheels and hub caps. Rarity and
distinctive good looks make the 1967 Pontiac Catalina 'Wide Track'
Convertible the cream of 1960's American convertibles.
