1955 Pontiac Chieftain hot rod rat rod kustom patina goth horror swap px

Hello and welcome.

If you are the shy retiring type. this car is NOT for you.   It is seriously bad-ass and gets you noticed. Most people don't understand it.

The car is a 1954 (1955 model year) Pontiac Chieftain.   It is UK registered. the plate is transferrable. it is tax and mot exempt. and costs almost nothing to insure.   I use it all the time when it's dry.

It is a rat rod.   It stands out in a sea of over-restored classic cars. so much so it took 'Best In Show' at a local car show last weekend against a lot of high end beautiful cars.

It is loud.   The original 287ci (4700cc) Stratostreak V8 is still in the car and is numbers matching. along with gearbox and rear axle.   It sounds like hell's fury when you stand on the loud pedal.   Did I mention it's loud?

I recently redid all of the alignment. caster. camber. toe in/out. checked all bearings and re-greased everything.   It is all spot on now. which means little as the car is on cross ply tyres which takes a bit of getting used to!  It does have power steering and brakes though which helps.   It drives as you would expect an American car from 1955 to drive.   It will cruise at the national speed limit and beyond and if you tickle it along it's in the low 20's mpg wise. Mechanically it's decent.

Body wise. it's solid.   There's some filler. some rust. some patchy paint. patina you can't buy. and a lairy set of flames in silver and pearl purple.   There are removable fender skirts.   The chrome is patinated. and original. some has been painted. some has been left to weather.   It has had floor work to the tune of 3 new floor pans. and the chassis is 100% straight and rust free.   Study the pictures carefully. but if you want ice cream van colours and shiny chrome this ain't it.

Interior:  I wanted Mexican blankets. but not just draped over the seats. so the front and rear benches have been trimmed with a mix of black vinyl and Mexican blankets with some skulls and crossbones thrown in.   I have not done the door cards but I have Mexican blanket material set aside for them which will be included. The dash is wonderfully patinated and all lights up.   I was going to paint it but it would be a sin to hide its originality.
