1980 MERCEDES BENZ 450 SL - MY MUMS FROM NEW

We have decided to sell my Mums Mercedes Benz 450 SL - she was given this car from new by her husband !!!

I find this very difficult to have to sell this car. but it is just not being used & I have nowhere to store the car. Also. with my mum now a box of ashes - what's the point !!!

It was purchased for my Mum - as a surprise gift. but after all the years of telling him she wanted a white Mercedes imagine the shock when she opened the garage door to find her perfect 9000 mile yellow Triumph Stag had gone & a RED Mercedes in its place. She hated RED cars!!!

This Mercedes Benz 450 SL was registered on 01/01/1980 - with a very nice interesting number. but then had a cherished number put on it - now removed. but the original number is back on the car.

The car has the optional Mexican hat alloy wheels. electric windows and rear seats - plus other things I don't know about - it's an automatic. and drives superb !!!

We have all the original keys. booklets. service maintenance booklet - all stamped up of course. the £9. 57. 18 invoice & photographs for the restoration work from 29/07/2004 !!! Some of the MOT's and various other 'stuff'.

The mileage is 82. 80 miles !!!


The car has been polished & GEN-3GLASSCOAT treated ( a ceramic hardened glass finish ) to protect it -

The car drives superbly. without any rattles or fuss - it drives better than any modern Mercedes. that's for sure.

It has been serviced far more than the service record states. and I have just serviced it using Kendall titanium 20/50 oil. new NGK spark plugs. new distributor cap. new rotor arm & new HT leads - my mum always asked me to service her car when I visited so she knew it was done correctly !!!

The car sits on Michelin tyres. they are the only tyres to have. period. It has a bespoke hand-made by Gran Fab - full stainless steel exhaust system fitted ( she asked for the ' SPORTY ' sound. and WOW it sounds nice !!! ) and I put on a set of genuine AMG 8J x 16" Penta alloy wheels I had laying around just to see how they looked ( the last photograph ) when I removed the hardtop - it was NEVER removed when she had the car. I just wanted to check the condition of the soft top - as it has never seen daylight since built in 1980  and was so difficult to pull up to inspect due to tight hinges !!! Needless to say. it was in as new condition and so black from the lack of UV light !!!

I just don't know what else to say - this car has been in my life for over 33 years now. I'm finding this very hard to do - it's nothing like selling a car I bought for myself. a car to add to a collection that's no longer wanted or even a car someone has asked me to sell - this one is special.

So. back to reality - this car needs a new loving home. and the money is not the issue !!!

No part exchange - I do not have the room or need another car.

The AMG wheels can be offered if required. but I will list them at a later date.
