SELLER REMARKS

This 1968 Plymouth GTX is the real deal: matching-numbers 440/4-speed. brilliant Bright Blue paint. and a high-quality restoration that respects the car. Finished in 2011. this nicely optioned "gentleman's express" is one of those blue-chip Mopars that you'll always regret not buying if it slips away.

While it shares some of its DNA with the Road Runner. the GTX always means something special to Mopar fans. And while they were targeted at an upscale audience. that doesn't mean they were babied and protected when they were new. Today. finding one this clean with matching numbers is a real rarity and certainly justifies the expensive professional restoration done by Robinson Restoration just two years ago. Since then. this Bright Blue beauty has been a show piece. collecting a trophy here and there and occasionally prowling the streets. As you'd expect. the restoration work is impressive. surpassing anything that the Chrysler Corporation was building back then. with doors that fit with even gaps and a hood that sits so flush with the fenders that you can't see the gap until you're right on top of it. The car's ultra-clean lines are enhanced by the simple white stripes along the rockers. and all the original trim was restored. re-plated. or replaced to give it a showroom sparkle that's quite impressive.

The high-contrast white bucket seats are as specified on the fender tag. and along with the blue carpets and standard black dash it makes for a spectacular interior environment. The fresh seat covers are so bright you'll think twice before climbing in. but once you're there you'll feel right at home with the Hurst cue ball in one hand and the freshly restored steering wheel in the other. A full complement of brightly restored gauges. including a factory tach. highlights the dashboard. which also includes new woodgrained appliques that capture the stunningly fake look of the originals. According to the fender tag. there wasn't a radio in this car originally but it now carries a correct Music Master AM radio with those wild vertical knobs. Experts will glance in the trunk and note that the quarters are original and it carries a reproduction mat and full-sized spare tire that's never been down.

Going fast in a Plymouth was easy. since the 440 was available in just about everything they built. I know what you're thinking: no console. no radio. and a Dana means this car was built for combat. but that's the original. numbers-matching engine in there. so it was never run to death on the track. It's all rebuilt now. of course. and features correct turquoise engine enamel. a chrome air cleaner with reproduction decals. and proper wire hose clamps on properly marked hoses. Only the carburetor. which is by Edelbrock. strays from the original formula. but it's virtually invisible in there so nobody will ever know. It's backed by its original 4-speed transmission and Dana 60 rear end. which is packed with 3. 54 gears with a Sure Grip limited slip. A brand new exhaust system sounds just right and it rolls on flashy Magnum 500 wheels with 215/70/14 BFG radials wrapped around them.

Brutal yet beautiful. the GTX is a study in contrasts. And perhaps the biggest contrast of all is that between the car's very impressive pedigree and its very affordable price. Call today!
