1972 2. 8 V 6 Baja Bus.

She is immaculate but also a usable daily driver that does about 27 mpg. Much more than the original 1600 but with 170 hp as well.

2. 8 ltr injection V 6 Ford engine (XR 4 i). approx 170 hp. Stainless free flow exhaust & free flow intake.

VW gearbox with up rated 4 spider differential by Cogbox and the strongest set of gears VW did. Scat short throw T shifter.

Jacked up suspension 5 inches at the front. 4 inches at the back.

Tyres are BF Goodridge. All Terrain. 30 x 9. 5 R 15 up front and 33 x 12. 5 R 15 on the rear.

3 heaters. 2 of them water matrix fan blown heaters. One 2 speed heater in the rear seat. one under the dash to heat and defrost the windscreen with infinate speed control. and a diesel Eberspacher heater in the rear seat for preheating. defrosting and night heating. Small diesel tank in the engine bay.

Double front anti-roll bar.

Double shocks front and back. KYB Gas Koni adjustable damping and coil overs.

Mid belly mounted thick core radiator with twin electric fans operated on a variable thermostat switch. Additional electric David Craig water pump and fan. mounted on small additional radiator.

Up rated brake servo and master cylinder.

Hinged sliding door. Limo tint windows. Rear opening window.

Big bull bar with tyre and Amstrad whippy aerial. Front wind jammer. Headlight grills.

Tripple insulation throughout the body. Door insulation consists of panel damping layer. fluffy insulation. plastic sheeting. then door panel. Floor insulation consists of rubberized sound mat. board then carpet.

DVD. 6 speakers. Ipod dock. Fly Trap base bin. driving camera. solar panel trickle charger. monster tachometer. voltage gauge. water temperature gauge. oil pressure gauge. under dash storage trays. 12 V power points. twin horn (select Klaxon or high beep). electric washers. She really does fly. I have had her up to 107 mph (satnav) and she still had plenty of revs to go. Also cruises nicely at 70 mph at about 3000 rpm. Much more economical than the 1600 at about 27 mpg.

I have just last week put a new low mileage engine in. changed the clutch and gone right through the gearbox. This was due to a slight tap on the top end and the cincro being a bit noisy. I wanted it all to be spot on.

Handling and ride is solid. corners well. very powerful. It is not like a 42 year old bus at all. Great to drive buzzing when you get out. On the motorway she feel good due to the wind jammer sucking it to the ground.

I recently did a fantastic photo shoot with 'VW Camper Magazine' and the bus will be a feature item in the coming issue. I'm sure this will add a substantial amount of value to the Baja Bus. Also bear in mind that she has never been entered into any shows. so she will be new on the circuit should you want to win some prizes.
