Current customer rating: (449 votes ) based onLamborghini Houston proudly offers our beautiful 1971 Maserati Ghibli 4. 9 SS Coupe. This example is finished in Maserati Red over a Beige Tan leather interior. It has been well kept through the years and its restoration history includes a complete mechanical rebuild. reupholstered interior. complete rewiring. and a glass-out repaint. This Maserati has only seen about 600 miles since its restoration was completed in 2012 and now shows just 47. 68 miles.
The Maserati Ghibli debuted at the 1966 Turin Motor Show exactly 1 year after Lamborghini had presented their Miura rolling chassis at the same show. Production began in 1967 and went on to outsell its biggest rivals. the Ferrari Daytona and the Lamborghini Miura. The slightly more powerful Ghibli SS was available from about 1969 to 1973. The SS model featured a 335hp 4. 9L dry-sump V8 up from the standard model’s 310hp 4. 7L V8. This was enough to give the Ghibli SS a claimed top speed of 175 mph. making it the fastest Maserati in production. Excellent braking was achieved through two twin-servo assisted ventilated discs with 3 pistons per caliper. Standard equipment on this GT included an adjustable steering column. anti-theft steering lock. leather upholstery. tinted and electric windows. reclining seats with head rests. heated rear windscreen. dashboard clock. and air conditioning.
The previous owner of this 1971 Maserati Ghibli 4. 9 SS Coupe Serial Number 2152 purchased the car in 1976 with 35. 00 miles. After driving it about 12. 00 over the next 3 years. the car was stored prior to a lengthy restoration. This restoration included a completely rebuilt engine and transmission as well as suspension. brakes. steering. and new exhaust. The car later received a glass-out repaint from its original color of silver blue to its current Maserati Red. The interior was also reupholstered from white leather to a beige tan color with Connolly hides shipped from London. At that time. the car was also fully rewired and the original Blaupunkt radio was rebuilt.
This Maserati Ghibli SS Coupe is a fantastic driver’s car. While not restored with a Platinum award in mind. the car certainly looks and drives extremely well. The Ghibli is renowned for its drivability at low or high speeds alike. Its handling characteristics are well-balanced. forgiving. and predictable thanks to its near perfect weight distribution and low center of gravity. Its styling by Giorgetto Giugiaro. who was working at Ghia. is said by some to be his finest work of the decade. If you’ve been considering a Maserati Ghibli SS Coupe. we recommend you consider this example!
