1969 Jaguar XKE E Type Series 2 FHC newly restored for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 185 votes
I have a 1966 Jaguar E Type FHC 4. 2 currently undergoing an extensive restoration.
Imported from the US late 2015 I started the restoration process in mid 2016 and now I am looking to market the vehicle. This is one of 3 e types I am currently restoring.
I first saw this vehicle New York and made a spontaneous decision to purchase and import it. It came to me largely complete showing little evidence of its original Ascot Fawn paint colour due to a previous effort at restoration. The vehicle had been stripped and parts carefully boxed and stored. The shell was then stripped and somewhat unsuccessfully coated in what I was told was a rust inhibitor. Stored in dry conditions the only subsequent corrosion was surface rust but that was all over the whole shell with a badly applied rust inhibitor staining it all over. It looked rather sorry for itself!
Due to the panel margins being largely intact and no evidence of any accident damage it was a prime candidate for restoration.
The restoration work carried out so far has largely been to replace panels that had been poorly repaired in the past. Corrosion had set into the outer sills and lower bonnet as well as a minor panels to around the toe box and wheel arches. All panels have been cut out and replaced rather than layered and lap welded. All panels are butt welded and either custom made from sheet steel or extensively modified from stock panels to ensure a perfect fit to the hand made body.
A painstaking 2 weeks was dedicated to ensuring the bonnet fit and panel gaps were exact before the vehicle was trusted to our partner paint shop.
The Jaguar is now being carefully prepared over the next 2 weeks and it will spend a further two weeks having its original Ascot Fawn paint applied.
During the next two weeks the engine. gearbox and rear sub frame will be stripped and recommissioned. The engine is not the original matching numbers block but is correct for the year of production and chassis number.
There after the painstaking assembly will begin at the end of which the Ascot Fawn will be combined with a black leather interior maintaining the originality.
The history of this particular vehicle is slightly irregular. It was purchased in the UK originally and was a special order left hand drive (we think). It was then first registered in the US. but not until 1970. by a UK military serviceman. The chassis number is not a US export number as we would normally have expected to see. It is our preference to put this back to the LHD car as we believe this is what it was originally despite the chassis number indicating otherwise. If a buyer wishes to look at changing this to a UK specification RHD then it remains possible at this stage and may be attractive due to the irregularity in chassis number.
So what is on offer in this listing is the finished restoration. I aim for the highest standard of restoration and as such the time to completion can't be exact. At the time of writing this listing we are aiming for a completed vehicle in Q1 2017.
Payment for the complete vehicle will be by instalment. The buyer will be funding the remainder of the restoration and will only pay the balance on delivery.
The completed vehicle based on the values seen in the market today will be somewhere between £80. 00 and £100. 00.
I am offering this vehicle for sale at £60. 00
In order to secure this price I would require a deposit of £20. 00. a further stage payment on completion of mechanical work of £20. 00 and the balance of £20. 00 on delivery.
I am open to offers to structure the deal in a way that the buyer feels comfortable. The closer the vehicle is to completion the higher the sale price will be so now is a good time to make me an offer to secure this car. There is the possibility to alter the restoration specification subject to my workshop capabilities.
I am able to personally deliver the vehicle across the UK and have the ability and experience to arrange export to most major markets.
The vehicle is available for inspection at my workshop in Northumberland with reasonable notice.
