FORD CAPRI MK1 GT 3500cc V8

Selling my Mk1 Capri GT V8 as I have an eye on something else. I've had the car since 2007 & in that time it has had virtually everything replaced or upgraded as I intended to keep it long-term.

Tax Exempt – current tax disc valid until end Feb 2014

MOT current until 04/05/2014

Details:

Body

June 1970 Capri Mk1 3. 0GT bodyshell. Good condition with no rust. Paint is excellent. Has had the roof rails removed & smoothed in. Front wings are smoothed into scuttle panel & smoothed into sill ends. Rear panel smoothed in. Dummy side vents removed. Quad headlights (RS3100 style) & steel quarter bumpers (front & rear) fitted. Front lower panel is fibreglass as is the bootlid. Duck-tail RS3100 spoiler fitted. Front wings have splash guards fitted. Boot floor has had spare wheel well removed & flat plate welded in. Battery in boot. Locks all work with separate keys for Doors. Boot. Ignition (for security). No holes etc underneath. Fully undersealed.

All body mods & paint were done before I got the car & they are done to a very high standard. Cant find any filler so I assume they are metal welded in. None of the car has been ‘cut-about' to fit the V8 so everything is tidy. Gearshift is a little further back than normal.

There is a couple of small blisters on wheelarch at rear. few small scabs & chips here & there but nothing has increased in size or got worse in the 6 years I've owned it.

Suspension

Front: Mk3 Capri struts/springs/crossmember with vented 2. 8i discs & callipers. upgraded rollbar. Alloy strutbrace. Fully polybushed. No power steering (could be upgraded if you swap the crossmember).

Rear: Mk1 3. 0GT axle & 3. 09 diff. Single leaf springs. 9” Mk1 drum brakes. Fully polybushed. Monroe Gas-Matic coilover shocks.

Wheels: Newly refurbished Allycat Rallye Special 7J x 13 with matching set of Firestone Firehawk tyres. 205/60R13 with 8-9mm of tread. Polished rims. painted centres. correct centrecaps. just been fully rebalanced.

Engine

Rover V8 3500cc unit (ex Rover P6) with Weber carb & K&N filter. Upgraded distributor. Twin electric fans on dashboard switch. Large capacity Rover radiator. SD1 manifolds coupled to custom Exhaust system - twin Cherry Bombs with ‘H' pipe and side-exit. Good oil pressure. Gearbox is the correct Rover 5-speed manual with hydraulic clutch (ex SD1). Hydraulics are hidden behind the dash so much tidier. Single piece propshaft. Heavy duty engine & gearbox mounts. Filter King fuel regulator & pressure gauge in engine bay & Facet red top fuel pump in boot. Starter sometimes clicks but will start after a couple of key turns.

Interior

Mk1 Capri GT dash with 6 gauges. Whole car rewired with a Mk3 loom. Radio/CD fitted. speakers in doors. Original GT rear seat with armrest. Carpet & centre console from 2. 8i. Recaro seats from Escort RS Turbo(?) – recline & tilt work. Sparco harness's fitted in addition to original belts – your choice what to use. Rollcage for show only – made of metal tube but not welded in so can be removed. Heater not connected. Rev counter not connected (was going to use an aftermarket one). Speedo sometimes doesn't work.

All in. a nice example of a Mk1 with the added rumble of a V8. Turns heads wherever I go & always gets lots of interest. Fun to drive with lots of smiles per mile.

As said. this was going to be a keeper but I have my eyes on something American.

I have a mk1 Capri and wondering where you got the rear quarter bumpers. I have wanted to do that for some time. Just wondering how you did it.
