For Sale is a true barn find that I feel is a great candidate to restore: mechanicals complete. engine runs. hard parts are there and seems to have been cared for prior to storage with the intent to restore.

I purchased the car to make into a two door street rod. Things changed after spending 3 hours in the AACA library and finding out how rare the last of the Dodge Brothers cars are. Was advertised as the "Fastest Car in the World for under a Thousand Dollars" in 1928. The car was dry laid up by the owner the correct way. Fluids drained. gas tank emptied. oil changed. and cylinder's oiled. The car was not driven since 1958. the door jamb stickers for oil change proves this by recording one mile to date. The car was filled with debris and old parts which the raccoon didn't mind using the interior for a home. The paw prints are still on the side of the car. I cleaned out the interior and found the floor boards are solid. The only rust through is where the cowl has a ledge on top of the frame. The holes are 1/4 inch in size. the area is flat easy cut out and repair. Mud was between the lower cowl and the wood floor above the cotton batten the holes are through the exterior sheet metal. All the doors are solid. no rust even on the bottom being the first body style with all metal frames and pinch welds. The doors lock as they should. handles don't droop. One rear piece of glass has a bb hole. All glass is clear and no stone chips or scratches even the headlights. I found the hand crank the engine was free. bore scoped the cylinder's seeing that somebody de-carbon'd the combustion chambers. Even found the old head gasket in the car. Inside the car found: an old lay gear with some teeth missing. main input shaft. gear slider shaft making me believe that the tranni was rebuilt/repaired. main bearing caps with Babbitt showing signs of wear. old carrier bearings and adjusters. old generator timing chain gear. head studs and some tools that looked period correct.  These parts show that restoration mechanical work was done on the car.

Cleaned the plugs. set the points gap. soaked the cylinder's again. loosened the frozen spark advance. illed the radiator with distilled water only. no leaks! THE ENGINE STARTED! The oil inside looks modern so the main seal leaked some. pressure was over 45 at idle. No oil smoke. the exhaust is solid and quite. Could not feel any blow by. Tried each gear with engine running no issues selecting or changing. clutch started to grab when released. Didn't move car under it's own power. not sure on brakes. Put slime in the tubes and all the tires are holding air. Wood wheels are solid. No dents on body. no evidence of paint or body work other than a repair to the bumper support. This was welded. in the pictures there is impact signs on both fenders above the bumper.  There is a hammer out mark on the fender above the passenger running board.  Running boards hold my full body weight. but there is rust under the rubber. Three louvers on the passenger side have a slight impact needing straightened. Motor meter has fluid in it and not cracked. Headlights and taillight work. Cowl lights didn't. Car has a dealer installed. not sure when. hot water heater and a stick on defroster pat'd 1930. There is a rubber blade fan mounted on the column that also ran. 2 Expanding exterior racks to mount on running boards for storage.  A three armed wheel tool that is used for breaking a tire bead.  Even has the pocket watch in the rear view mirror.

This is an interesting car showing the technology of the day. Being as complete and solid as it is after going through it I can't seem to continue with my plan of cutting it up. I am posting this 88 year old car hoping that somebody would see an easy project to take forward.

Thanks for looking.

I am posting the pic' s as I found the car.
