1971 Volkswagen Bay Window Minibus Deluxe
For sale is our VW minibus. We bought the van in 2013 for a rolling restoration project to convert in to a campervan which. due to other commitments. unfortunately did not get completed.  For 6 months the van was used as a daily driver during which time it was MOT'd which it passed first time. It was then only driven maybe once every couple of weeks during the remainder of the MOT which expired in August 2015. The van was then SORN with the intention on completing the camper conversion but lack of time. and life. got in the way and the conversion was never completed. The van is now an MOT failure with some welding work required to pass it's MOT.   I am selling because I just do not have the time to complete the works required to put the van back on the road and I do not want it to sit and rot. Normally I would complete all the works myself and if you are able to weld then the cost to pass an MOT would be between £500 and £750. I have had a loose quote from a local restoration company for the works to pass an MOT which would be in the region of £1. 00 if the lucky buyer is not confident to weld.
The van is a left hand drive Californian import and is generally in good condition with some welding required but otherwise solid and filler free. Up until 4 months ago it was dry stored however I have lost the use of the garage so the van has been stored on my driveway under a cover.  It is currently laid out as a minibus with PVC seating front and rear for 9 persons. The floorpan is in a solid condition and the seating and door cards are in good condition also. I have removed the headlining. which was original. however have retained this and will be including it in the sale. The main body work is also in good condition and the paintwork is still looking fresh along with the deluxe trim all around. The engine is running and I have ensured that the van is started and driven a short distance at least once every 2 weeks to prevent engine and brake seizure and the gear box is in good condition also for a 45 year old vehicle.
In terms of works required. there is what is needed to pass an MOT plus then the endless other tasks that every van owner completes over time. The main areas for attention are listed below. Once with an MOT and with other works completed a van of this condition will have a value upwards of £10. 00 and will make an easy rolling restoration once MOT'd.
