1997 Porsche Carrera 911 (996)

Meticulously and lovingly maintained very early (chassis number 1500) example of a Generation 1 996 6-speed manual Carrera 2 coupe. If you are seeking an exceptionally well documented. genuine example of an excellent condition early 996 with extensive history going back to 1999 then this is the car: the history file with the car documents in excess of £25. 00 of service work on it over the years.

I have owned this car since early April 2014 – my first Porsche bought to fulfill a childhood ambition that had to wait until I was in my mid-forties so I could afford to look after it properly. In the 30-months I have owed it the car has never been used for short (high wear) journeys and instead has always been warmed up properly and brought to full operating temperature in order to correctly heat-cycle the engine. Needless to say. the car has been driven entirely considerately (below 2. 00 rpm) until the engine has reached full operating temperature.

The comprehensive service history goes back to 1999 and includes services. tyres and 2 x clutch (and dual mass flywheel) replacements . dual radiator replacements. air conditioning condenser replacements. routine suspension geometry alignments. batteries. start motor. tappet replacements and so on. The clutch was last replaced a few months before I bought the car (September 2013)at 102. 00: the car currently has 127. 00 miles on it and the Hartech technician (see later) believed at the end of June (at 124. 00 miles) that the clutch still had approximately 50% life left in it when they had the gearbox removed from the car.

In the time I have owned the car I have had the following work undertaken:

4 oil and filter changes in the 20. 00 miles I have owned the car – oil changed every 5. 00 miles

New rear tyres at 111. 00 miles

New front tyres at 115. 00 miles

All the tyres are correct Pirelli P Zero Rosso and still have lots of wear left in them (I estimate they are at 50% through – but that is an estimate)

The wheels have been refurbished and re-finished

All 4 brake discs and sets of pads were replaced with OEM parts (from Design 911 Centre) at 114. 00 miles

A new stainless steel sports exhaust system was fitted. along with 2 new lambda sensors at 111. 00 miles. The exhaust system is a quality item from Design 911 Centre and sounds just “right” – like a Porsche 911 flat-6 engine should do but without being too loud and garish and it does not drone at motorway speed (as cheaper systems do).

A new windscreen and surrounding trim was fitted earlier this year

Recent work over this summer has been at the renowned Porsche specialist Hartech as I have moved to the north-west and includes –

Fitting 6 new ignition coil packs

Replacement of Variocam solenoid on bank 1 (to remedy rough idle)

Removal of gearbox to replace metal brake pipe over the top of the box (common MoT failure point)

Gearbox oil change

Wheel alignment

In short. the car before my ownership wanted for nothing and in my ownership it has wanted for even less. I have a hand-held fault diagnosis device and can demonstrate that the car is fault free for any test drive.

The history folder is extensive. as can be seen from the photos. Each year has its own polythene pocket with the invoices for that year in it and in addition there are 12 MoT certificates in the history folder that all back up the mileage (which is further confirmed by mileage stamps on service invoices and receipts). The car has 2 sets of keys and a full Porsche Owners' Pack in its leather folder.

I have the RAC's report from the DVLA re lost. damaged. stolen and mileage from when I bought the car (dated 3rd April 2014) and obviously that gave it the all-clear at that date.

I also have the March 2012 edition of “evo” magazine as the car was tested in a group test of “£15k Heroes” and has an extensive write-up in the magazine (needless to say. it was the editor's favourite car in the test…).

The car is fantastic. More than that. it is an entirely genuine and well-looked after example of a model which is now getting rarer and difficult to find in excellent condition. For this reason. the bidding starts at £12. 00 at which point the car offers exceptional value for what it is. If she goes for £12. 01 then so be it but likewise. please no offers below that price as they will simply not be entertained: there are cheaper and less desirable Tiptronic cars out there without the history but they are entirely different ownership propositions to this car.

I have a genuine reason for selling the car and if it were not for that I would be keeping it for the next 20-years. I have just come back from a 2. 00 mile European trip in it last month and the car was simply fantastic and a joy to drive.

More than happy to answer any questions and offer any advice based upon the knowledge I have as an enthusiastic owner who has read up about the cars and owning them – I am no expert though.

Please note that the car is now at my new address in Manchester.
