Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this documented and numbers matching 1979 Y84 Special Edition (SE) Trans Am in excellent driver condition with the WS6 package. It looks great. runs terrifically. and is a nice driver. This Trans Am has been a west coast car its entire life and was delivered new to Paul Snider Pontiac in Sacramento. California. The market on Special Edition Trans Am's is absolutely red hot right now and continues to rise. This Trans Am is totally solid with great lines. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Y84 "Smokey and the Bandit" Trans Am that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. Please peruse all of the photos. video. and other information below to get a true sense of clean and nice this Trans Am really is. This Trans Am is finished in the beautiful and sought-after color combination of Starlight Black with SE decals over Black Cloth interior. This is the most desired and appealing color combination available on these second generation Trans Am's. Please peruse all of the photos. video. and other information below to get a true sense of clean and nice this Trans Am really is.

There is a wealth of original documentation that comes with this Trans Am. Most importantly to verify all of the highly sought-after and rare options. the original build sheet is include with the car and pictured below. Thankfully the previous owners were very diligent with maintenance and kept very detailed records. Included with the car and pictured below is an extensive maintenance log starting in October of 1980. Also included is a receipt for $3. 58. 18 for a complete engine rebuild and a receipt for $1. 95. 45 for a transmission rebuild. The original owners manual. is also still with the car.

Please note that this Trans Am is "numbers matching. " That means that the engine in the car is original and the same unit that was installed at the factory. The last six digits of the VIN. 139222. are stamped on the engine block and pictured below indicating that this is the original engine that was installed in the car brand new at the factory. The full stamping is "29L139222" and "2" indicates the Pontiac division of GM. the "9" is the model year. 1979. and the "L" is the plant where the car was produced. Van Nuys. CA. The paint and interior trim codes are also correct for this color combination and pictured below on the trim tag. This Trans Am rolled off the assemble line during the fourth week of December in 1978 (12D).

The transmission is also correct and original as well with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the case and pictured below. The transmission date code is also pictured below. 9P19N. The "9" is the model year. 1979. The "P" indicates the month. the "19" is the day of the month. and the "N" is the shift so the transmission was made on September 19. 1978 during the night shift.

As a side note. this Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle.   We hand pick each car after careful inspection.   Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.   We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.   Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.   We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.   If you have a question about the Pontiac. just give us a call.

model description

A new styling treatment to the front end was the most striking change for the 1979 Trans Am. laying back the nose at a 22-degree angle from the "Batmobile's" 16-degree angle for better aerodynamics. The Trans Am became a "bottom breather". picking up some fresh air for cooling at the bumper grilles. the remaining amount from underneath the front bumper. The traditional grille between the headlamps was gone. replaced by a pair mounted in the bumper pad extensions. The grilles were in a matte black and contained the turn signal/park lamp lenses in the upper outer corners. The now common four rectangular headlamps were each set in deep recesses. surrounded by low gloss bezels. The Pontiac crest continued to reside in the center of the front fascia.

In addition to the styling change. a bright spot to the front end restyle was a deeper front spoiler. now made of a flexible material rather than the hard plastic of the '77-78's. The change in material made it a bit more friendly to curb stones and parking lot dips. The spoiler actually was responsible for a major portion of the cooling air which was channeled to the radiator. Larger wheel air deflectors (or spats) were fitted. blending with the new spoiler.

The most drastic and best looking change to the rear had to be the tail lamp assemblies. The lamps now stretched corner to corner. with a hinged fuel filler door in the center. While this may seem enough of a change. the big news was that the tail lamps had a "blacked out" look; at least until the lights were activated. then the red was proudly broadcast. For 1979. this was major cool.

condition

Exterior

Being an original California car and living its whole life in a temperate west coast climate. this Trans Am has never been subject to harsh winters or salty roads. The trunk is clean and as one can seen in the many photos of the underside. this Trans Am is totally solid. We have also included specific photos of the spring perches. lower front and rear quarters. and other areas on the car most prone to rust to show how clean it looks. The Starlight Black exterior is in good driver condition. The car looks just in person as it does in the photos. As one can see in the photos. the paint has a good gloss and smooth finish. The 8 inch wheels are correct for a WS6 model and are in good shape with a nice finish. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. The paint obviously has some age to it and some imperfections as one can see in the photos.

This Trans Am has a stamping on the radiator core support. which is pictured below. The core support shows a "9 14 78" stamp. or September 14. 1978. This stamping would be correct and original as it precedes the car's build date of the fourth week of December. 1978 (12D). As one can imagine. if this Trans Am had ever sustained even a minor front end collision this part would have been repaired or replaced. The original stampings are great to see in tact.

Interior

The The Black Hobnail cloth interior of the Trans Am looks great and has been almost completely restored. The seats look virtually brand new with no tears. rips. or signs of wear. The carpet is also in "like new" condition with no stains. tears. or holes. The door panels look new and are in great shape with no cracks or splits. The package tray is in excellent condition with no fading or wrinkles. The radio works and gets good reception. There is no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. The dash is not faded. but does have a crack which is visible in the photos. The headliner is showing some age towards the back window.

Mechanical

This Trans Am appears to be in good overall mechanical condition. It is a nice driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 65 mph. shifting through all the gears. braking to a stoplight. and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts well. runs well. and the car performs quite nice overall. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It runs cool and does not overheat. There is some wind noise that can be heard in the video at highway speed. Also. the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. The horn works as do all the exterior lights. wipers. and blower for the heater and a/c on all speeds except high. All of the gauges. the speedometer. tachometer. odometer. temperature. fuel. and battery all work with the obvious exception of the clock. It is cold blooded like many other older carbureted cars and runs the best when it is warmed up; it could probably use a tune up and some bugs worked out. The a/c does not work. This Trans Am has lots of power and handles great with the WS6 package. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the T-Tops out on a beautiful day.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1979 SE Trans Am is in nice condition and a great value at our asking price. The market on for the Special Edition Trans Am is very strong right now. This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson and stars of the future. In fact in 2016 Barrett Jackson has sold a 1979 Y84 Trans Am for $55. 00. a 1980 Y84 for $71. 00. a 1980 Y84 for $110. 00 and a 1979 Tenth Anniversary Trans Am for $187. 00. though it did have very low miles. Someone could easily enjoy this Special Edition Trans Am for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
