vehicle description

It is hard to convey in pictures and words how truly exceptional this car really is. Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this all numbers matching. unbelievably original. and documented 1978 WS6 Trans Am with the high performance W72 6. 6 Liter engine and only 51. 10 original miles. The market on the 1977 and 1978 Trans Am's is absolutely red hot right now and this example is priced to sell. Very low mileage and original examples of the second generation Trans Am's are exceptionally difficult to find and draw a huge premium in the current market. The low original mileage is verified not only by the condition of the car. but also the clear Ohio title. pictured below. showing the mileage as "Actual. "

This Pontiac looks outstanding. runs great. and is and awesome driver. I have personally put over 50 miles on the car and during that time it was completely reliable and a pleasure to drive. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Trans Am that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. This Trans Am is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combination of Mayan Red (75) with Gold decals over Black Cloth interior (19B). This is the correct and original color scheme as verified on the trim tag and build sheet. Please peruse all of the photos. video. and other information below to get a true sense of clean and nice this Trans Am really is.

There is a wealth of original documentation that comes with this Trans Am. Most importantly to verify all of the highly sought-after and rare options. the original build sheet is include with the car and pictured below. Also included is a copy of the window sticker. the original owners manual. the 1978 Pontiac Maintenance booklet. and the 1978 Pontiac Consumer Information booklet.

Please note that this Trans Am is "numbers matching. " That means that the engine in the car is original and the same unit that was installed at the factory. The last six digits of the VIN. 113082. are stamped on the engine block and pictured below indicating that this is the original engine that was installed in the car brand new at the factory. The full stamping is "28N113082" and "2" indicates the Pontiac division of GM. the "8" is the model year. 1978. and the "N" is the plant where the car was produced. Norwood. OH. Also stamped on the block is the engine code "X7. quot; which is correct for a W72 engine with an automatic transmission.

The transmission is correct and original as well with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the case and pictured below. The main case of the transmission shows a "6 77" casting date. which is June 1977 and correct for the car. The transmission date code is also pictured below. 8P20D. The "8" is the model year. 1978. The "P" indicates the month. the "20" is the day of the month. and the "D" is the shift so the transmission was made on September. 20 1977 during the day shift. The paint and interior trim codes are also correct for this color combination and pictured below on the trim tag. This Trans Am rolled off the assemble line during the fourth week of September in 1977 (09D).

As a side note. this Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle.   We hand pick each car after careful inspection.   Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.   We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.   Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.   We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.   If you have a question about the Pontiac. just give us a call.

condition

Exterior

The Mayan Red exterior is in excellent condition. As one can see in the photos. the paint has a great gloss. deep shine. and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely and do not sag. Often many Trans Am's will have particularly chipped up front ends; this car does not and even the low and vulnerable front spoiler is in great condition as one can see in the photos. The wheels are in good shape with a nice finish and no curb rash. The BF Goodrich tires are virtually brand new. They are sized 225/70R15. which is correct for a 1978 WS6. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. As one would expect from a paintjob with this much age there are some small blemishes around the car that are too small so show up in the photos. but nothing that is really noticeable from about 5 feet away.

The trunk is remarkably clean and original. As one can seen in the many photos of the underside. this Trans Am is totally solid. We have also included specific photos of the spring perches. lower front and rear quarters. and other areas on the car most prone to rust.

This Trans Am has a stamping on the radiator core support. which is pictured below. The core support shows a "6 08 77" stamp. or June 8. 1977. This stamping would be correct and original as it precedes the car's build date of the fourth week of September. 1977 (09D). As one can imagine. if this Trans Am had ever sustained even a minor front end collision this part would have been repaired or replaced. The original stampings are great to see in tact. Both front fenders are also date stamped (pictured below) and original from 1977.

Window Date Codes

Windshield: AG - "A" denotes September and "G" denotes 1977 meaning the windshield window was made in September of 1977.

Driver: TG - "T" denotes August and "G" denotes 1977 meaning the driver's side window was made in August of 1977.

Passenger: UG - "U" denotes July and "G" denotes 1977 meaning the passenger's side window was made in July of 1977.

Rear: TG - "T" denotes August and "G" denotes 1977 meaning the rear window was made in August of 1977.

Please note that ALL the glass on this car. the door glass. rear glass. and even windshield are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of this fourth week of September. 1977 (09D). Original glass is another good indication of no accident history.

The Trans Am looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Black Hobnail cloth interior of the Trans Am looks fantastic and is all original. The seats are in excellent condition with no tears. rips. or split seams. Please note that these appear to the original seats and skins. not some cheap aftermarket covers or reproductions. The carpet looks great with no stains. rips. or holes. The dash is in excellent condition with no cracks. fading. or sun damage. The dash bezel looks amazing with a beautiful finish. The original door panels look great with no cracks or splits. and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The package tray looks great with no warping. fading. or sun damage. All of the gauges faces are crisp and the lenses are clear. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. Please note in the video below how both seat belts operate and retract properly. This is a very common problem on this era "F-Body" and a small. but very important. detail most buyers do not think to check. Trans Am interiors from this era are not known to wear well over time and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care this Trans Am has received throughout its life.

The trunk is original and totally complete with the original space saver spare. inflator bottle. jack. jack base. decals. and trunk mat.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Trans Am appears to be in great mechanical condition and is ready to be enjoyed. As stated above I have put over 50 miles on the car with absolutely no issues at all. The W72 400ci engine starts right away every time. idles well. and runs great. It is an exceptional driver that feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph. shifting through all the gears. braking to a stoplight. and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts well. runs great. there are no strange noises or vibrations. and the car performs quite nice overall. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It runs cool and does not overheat. Also. the engine bay is clean. nicely detailed. and correct as one can see from the photos. The horn works as do all the exterior lights. interior lights. indicators. wipers. and blower for the heater and a/c on all speeds but high. All of the gauges work and even the clock runs. The a/c does not work. This Trans Am has lots of power with the W72 engine and handles great with the WS6 suspension. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the T-Tops out on a beautiful day.

The Trans Am runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1978 WS6 Trans Am is in excellent condition and is a true bargain at our asking price. The market on for the second generation Trans Am is very strong right now. particularly for the 1977 & 1978 model years. and low mileage original cars are much more desirable. Any vehicle can be restored. but a car is only original once and originally cannot be duplicated. This Trans Am is a great value and will only appreciate over time. Someone could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.

Thank you for looking and please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions.
