Starting with the great depression…all of the cars at General Motors got a companion car. The purpose of the companion car was to appeal to and fill the gap between the divisions current car and something a little less expensive. Buick had the Marquette and Cadillac had the LaSalle and Oakland got the Pontiac as its companion car. Right out of the gate the Pontiac was more popular then the Oakland. but it was only supposed to be filling in a gap.
It is important to note that in 1932 Pontiac and Chevrolet would have the six cylinder engines. The word got out that Ford was coming out with a V8 engine and General Motors was not prepared right at that moment in time to have a competitive engine to replace the six cylinder so they decided to go to the designers and tell them to make the Pontiac as elaborate and classy looking as they could. Many styling cues used on the Pontiac came down from the V16 Cadillac. This is of course again one of the reasons that Pontiac undermined and replaced Oakland.
When you take a look at the car in this ad it is not hard to understand that the designers really did their job! The 1932 Pontiacs were wonderfully attractive and even today the collectors are appreciating the great designs and styling cues.
The car in this eBay listing has been owned by the same gentleman for three decades so it is not a fixer upper that somebody prepared for resale. It is also interesting to note that this is a truly honest car as the owner of this car comes from a line of Pontiac employees. As he tells us the story his grandfather worked at Pontiac and at one point in time even had John DeLorean who came to General Motors/Pontiac Division working under his grandfather's supervision. With all that in mind the private seller originally bought the car and restored it as a tribute to his love for Pontiacs and also to his grandfather for the decades that he spent at Pontiac Motor Division.
The six cylinder is known for its reliability. power and its snappy acceleration. It is also a very smooth engine and in its day was known for its excellent gas mileage. This car has a 3-speed manual transmission. This car is even equipped with the Pontiac freewheeling. This means that your gas mileage will be even better when you are using free wheeling and it may allow for shifting between 3rd and 2nd. 2nd and 3rd without the use of the clutch. Check out that highly attractive dash in the photos!
The private seller tells us that when he purchased the car in 1986 and began the painstaking job of restoring the car and searched near and far to get authentic parts for the car. The car has a Marvel carburetor and silencer. 30 years ago he spent $3. 00 on the radiator and shell and purchased very expensive mohair fabric for the interior…in other words he didn't cut corners on the restoration. The car has a vinyl roof as you can see in the photo. The seats were done in the original pattern. The private seller tells us that he was told that the mileage on the car was original. The odometer now reads 47. 00.
The private seller has provided some additional notes:

When you find a car that has been loved for a long time. has been restored in one of the most beautiful colors that we have ever seen on pre-war Pontiac you know that you can bid with confidence on the car.
If you are looking for a great 2-door sedan with plenty of style in one of the nicest colors we have ever seen on a pre-war car. a beautiful mohair interior that has been loved and well cared for decades and it shows. then this may be the car for you! The flathead six engines are known for durability and smooth acceleration and don't forget you can get the entire family under the roof in this car. There are plenty of collectors that want a car that has the sporty aspect of being a 2-door but they also want to have the passengers in the back seat under the roof and not in a rumble seat. In this car you get everything that you need to have the family tour in comfort.
Also keep in mind that this car has an original 47. 00 plus miles and has plenty of ventilation with the side windows rolled down and the front windshield will open up approximately two inches. The two rear windows may need some adjustment on the cranking mechanism. For all that this car offers the private seller has set a very low reserve and you should bid to win and you will be happy you did.
