For sale in our St. Louis showroom is a 1972 Pontiac GTO. The odometer reads 70. 50. but the actual mileage is unknown. Options for this 1972 Pontiac GTO include: Air Conditioning. AM/FM Radio with Cassette Player. Power Brakes. Power Steering. Power Windows. Seat Belts. Vinyl Interior. Raised White Letter Radial Tires. and Rally Wheels. Powering this classic GTO is a 400 CID V8 engine. A TH400 automatic transmission transfers the power to the Ford 9" rear end which houses 3. 55 gears. The exterior is finished in gold paint with green. yellow. and white side Judge decals. The paint and decals are in good. driver quality condition. The black vinyl interior is also in good condition. free from any rips. tears. or major wear. If the Judge decals don't give away it's GTO status the front clip surely will. The 2 hood scoops at the front of the fiberglass hood. and the iconic GTO badge in the front grill will enlighten your fellow travelers every time you venture out of the garage. The GTO was produced by Pontiac Motor Division from 1964 to 1974. and brought back as a late model by a GM subsidiary. Holden (based in Australia) from 2004 to 2006. Although not the first "Muscle Car" on the market. the GTO. with its styling and power. was known as the one that started the muscle car movement. All four auto makers competed for the top spot. which made being a car enthusiast at that time like a kid in a candy store every time you went to a local dealership. For the 1964 and 1965 model years the GTO was an optional package of the Pontiac Tempest. From 1966 to 1971 the GTO was its own model. For 1972 to 1973 it became an optional package again. only this time it was for the Pontiac Le Mans. Finally in 1974 it was again an optional package. but this year it was for the Pontiac Ventura. So in its life the GTO bounced around a bit. Pontiac knew it was worth it to keep the name around. ultimately the gas shortage and emissions killed the muscle car and the GTO along with it. Time has certainly proven Pontiac's love for the GTO to be correct. as the GTO is one of the most sought after muscle cars from the era.
