Over the last five years we've sold more Chrysler wing cars than anyone; and when we tell you this Road Runner is the epitome of blue chip muscle. it's coming from first-hand experience. Not only does this Plymouth run a numbers-matching powerplant. it's also the beneficiary of a fresh. rotisserie restoration that's constructed around a roster of correct parts. If you're reading this. you already know it's hard to beat Chrysler's famous one-car parade. And you probably also know exactly how rare this classic is. Now. without further ado. it's our pleasure to bring you one of the nicest Superbirds we've ever seen!

As previously stated. this 'bird sports an original 440 cubic inch Super Commando V8. which has been upgraded to Six Pack induction. Naturally. the car is well documented; with our sale including a Chrysler broadcast sheet. restoration photos and a stack of restoration receipts. And we have a detailed fender tag decode that reads as follows:

Like most Superbirds. this Plymouth features limited options. These were expensive cars. and dealers knew they'd be an even harder sale with tons of price-inflating equipment. But then. who cares about tissue boxes and rear window defrosters anyway? This bright orange rocket was built for the track!

The car's body was clearly reworked from solid. original steel. with only its trunk revealing blatant replacement panels. Speaking of panels. panel gaps are much better than any hand-built original. Naturally. the two-stage paint is exemplary. having been sanded and buffed to a spectacular shine. There's correct decals. doors that close with precision. and a small amount of chrome that's been completely refinished. And when all those elements unite. they create one spectacular showpiece that'll draw a crowd. elicit stares and inspire compliments wherever it goes.

Pop this coupe's Hemi Orange hood and dig its original. 440 cubic inch Super Commando V8. As the fender tag points out. this was originally a 4-barrel car. but the restorer chose to install a correct Edelbrock Six Pack intake that anchors three 2-barrel carburetors under a correct Six Pack air cleaner. Not only does that set up add a ton of eyeball appeal. it also makes wondrous noise and adds significant power. And you know what we say about more power: it has NO downside! The rebuilt engine was very carefully detailed. and sports correct hoses. clamps. belts and wires. Up front. an original 26-inch radiator keeps things cool while a recent Mopar red cap battery provides the juice. There's a correct ballast resistor on the firewall. and the power brake booster is new. complimenting a new master cylinder. Note the new washer fluid bottle and original "beep beep!" horn. The big mill does have a few shake-down miles on it. and the raw exhaust manifolds show signs of a few heat cycles. But overall. everything is in great condition. creating a classic that runs just as great as it looks.

Under this awesome Road Runner. a rebuilt A727 Torqueflite does an excellent job of putting power to the pavement. Behind that Torqueflite. a powdercoated Chrysler 8. 75-inch rear end spins mild 3. 23 gears that perfect the kind of high-speed cruising this car is famous for. Above that first class drivetrain. solid floors have been professionally undercoated for long-term protection. The stock suspension has been augmented with a set of high quality KYB gas shocks that really button down handling. The brakes are rebuilt and the steering is tight. although nobody will accuse this ground-based missile of being a sports car. There's an all-new TTI exhaust system that's complete with Dynomax mufflers. And those brand new Rallye wheels twist fat 255/60/15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As.

This Superbird's fresh interior is a striking cocoon of performance that was constructed by some of the top names in the restoration business. From an aesthetic standpoint. if you can touch it. it's basically new. The bucket seats are covered in correct black pelts that are piped with bright silver trim. The optional center console features vivid wood grain inserts. The door panels are fresh. decorated in attractive stainless accents. correct black frames and colorful Road Runner decals. The headliner. like its countering carpet. is taut and clean. with none of the typical gathering you often see in custom-fitted cars. Factory gauges were fully rebuilt with crisp. new faces and a perfectly functional tic-toc-tach. In front of the driver. you'll find a familiar Rim Blow steering wheel. And behind the passengers. a clean trunk looks as correct as the day it left the showroom.

In addition to the aforementioned broadcast sheet and restoration documentation. this Plymouth's sale includes an original owner's manual and an original warranty booklet.

Long passed are the days when winged warriors sat on dealer lots waiting for new owners. Presently. cars like this killer Plymouth are extremely popular. heavy-hitting collector pieces.
