I have owned this car for 2 years. The car had undergone a recent sympathetic restoration when i bought it. Hemmings defines the sympathetic restoration as " somewhere between fully restored and all- original is the sympathetic restoration. usually implemented to preserve as much of a cars originality as possible while preventing deterioration"
I make no warranty - but i believe the original pieces as described above to be true and correct. This car is very if not completely rust free and i have been unable to locate ANY putty or fillers anywhere on this car. The undercarriage is very solid. no rust throughs and it does not appear the floor or trunk has every been repaired. The carpet and mats are original and moisture and mildew free. I beleive this car was southwestern car because of the rust free dry state and because at the right angle the windshield is very slightly "sand sparkled".
The seller had no specific history on the car. i have not researched it. the title document is a replacement. free clear and not a salvage.
Engine: runs excellent. burns no oil. Original air cleaner and valve covers. Starts right up. does not overheat in any fashion. Original radiator. All hoses replaced. newer alternator. Accelerates as good as the 175 horse 350 does. No leaks apparent.
Trans: shifts flawlessly. no leaks apparent.
What was done to the car before i bought it:Painted gm flame orange as from factory Black vinyl top replaced Headers installed Radio replaced Engine bay refurbished new hoses installed Air present but not installed New body trim pieces where needed.
What have i done to the car in past two years:New mufflers and exhaust New white letter tires New oil pan gasket Original air installed and put in working order New tie rods New center link New A arm bushings 4 new shocks 4 new springs with cargo coils in rear New plug wires and tune New master cylinder Trans maintenance with new pan gasket and new vacuum line New chrome differential cover New front brake pads New front and rear after market bumpers 1970 monte carlo tail light lenses with blue dots. I have the original 1972 tail light pieces and parts and they are in excellent condition
What needs attention:Trans dip stick broke while out of trans so it is present but only about 8 inches long The horn does not work As mentioned the original windshield has very slight "sand sparkle"While not unsightly in any fashion. the shop that installed the replacement vinyl top left some small but visible glue along the top rear edge UNDER the vinyl when the top was rolled and glued. The glue dryed under the vinyl. These cars often rust around and along the rear window and this is not rust. The aluminum trim along the rear above the bumper and below trunk lid lip has a small dent.
This is a trophy winning car that draws attention whereever it goes. It drives flawlessly and effortlessly and is as good an example as you will find.
