LOTUS ESPRIT S4 GT CHAMPIONSHIP LIMITED EDITION - NO 9 OF JUST 11 BUILT

A Lotus Esprit S4 GT Championship Winners limited edition. Number 9 of just 11 built and with a mere 35700 recorded miles.

Eleven examples were built to commemorate the eleven victories for Lotus in the 1994 British GT championship. resulting in the title for Danish driver Thorkild Thyrring.

The Esprit S4 GT Championship Winners limited edition featured metallic Lotus Racing Green paintwork with Yellow wheel centres and discreet sign writing to each flank. Inside. sports seats and a red steering wheel. reminiscent of those used by Team Lotus in the 1960s. mark this car out as special. This edition also saw the debut of this rear wing style that was to become a feature of the S4S model just a few months later. A plaque confirming it to be number 9 of 11 is proudly fitted too.

First registered in February 1995. #9 was originally supplied by Ryland. the official dealer for the West Midlands. The early service history is documented as follows.

In February 2002. the vehicle was sold to Paul Proudlock. an Englishman living in France. A competent engineer. Mr Proudlock purchased himself a set of workshop manuals and a Freescan tool and was to look after the vehicle himself for the next few years. in the absence of a suitable Lotus technician in his part of France. A full portfolio of papers from this time is on file. with most of the parts being acquired via Paul Matty Sportscars and SJ Sportscars. here in the UK. Undertaking only modest mileage for the next ten years. improvements made whilst in Mr Proudlock's ownership included fitment of a braided stainless steel clutch pipe and the SJ Sportscars gearshift improvement kit. Upon his return to the UK. Mr Proudlock entrusted the vehicle to renowned Esprit experts Sportomotive in Salisbury who undertook a clutch change 4000 miles ago and a new cambelt three years ago. A new Category One alarm system and a DAB radio/CD/MP3/Bluetooth head unit were also fitted (the original Clarion unit will be supplied with the vehicle).

The current owner is only selling due to a health issue which will bring to a close over twenty years of Esprit ownership. starting with a Giugiaro-shape example that I sold to him all those years ago.

I have just driven the vehicle 250 miles. to bring it home to Norfolk and the car performed perfectly. The gear change improvement is a huge benefit and the turbo charged engine pulls strongly. as expected.

A comprehensive set of papers. the original owners' manual and two keys are. of course. present. A significant number of previous MOT certificates are there to verify the low mileage. The car has just passed an MOT test. with no advisories. so valid until late July 2017.
