The first Porsche 911 was introduced in 1963 as the replacement
for the much loved Porsche 356. It has a distinctive design;
rear-engined and with independent rear suspension. an evolution of
the swing axle on the Porsche 356. The engine was also air-cooled
until the introduction of the 996 in 1998. Since its introduction
in 1963. it has undergone continual development although the basic
concept has remained little changed. In 1973. the Carrera name was
re-introduced from the 356 Carrera which had itself been named
after Porsche's class victories in the Carrera Panamericana races
in Mexico in the 1950s. The RS was built so that Porsche could
enter racing formulae which stipulated that a minimum number of
production cars were made. The most notable advances in 1984 were
the introduction of the 3. 2 litre engine. Although it remained an
air-cooled 'flat six'. the '3. 2' was 80% new and incorporated an
effective cam chain tensioner and associated lubrication system
that at last addressed a perennial 911 shortcoming. With 231bhp on
tap. the new 'boxer' motor endowed the Carrera with a level of
performance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974.

This much loved and well looked after 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera
Cabriolet. fitted with the 3. 2 litre engine and G50. five-speed
gearbox. electrically powered windows. roof and seats was first
registered by the supplying Porsche dealer. before the second
owner. a solicitor. enjoyed the car for twenty years. The vendor
purchased this 911 in 2012 requiring some body restoration which
involved replacing all four wings and then carrying out a full bare
metal respray in the original colour of silver. restoring the
driver's seat and re-connolising the blue interior. More recently. br/>the engine was removed and a new flywheel and clutch assembly
fitted. This Carrera Cabriolet has a very good service history with
the service book stamped up to 2012 and two more services carried
out in the vendor's ownership by a fully qualified mechanic. The
most recent service was done less than 2. 00 miles ago. This
excellent Porsche 911 is supplied with a V5C registration document. br/>an MoT test which expires in February 2017. a tool kit and all the
handbooks and manuals. With the soft top offering open air motoring
and with the Porsche reputation for reliability and build-quality. br/>this is a rare opportunity to buy a practical righthand drive
classic Porsche which has been much loved and cared for throughout
its life.
