1979 Pontiac Trans Am 400 (6.6 litre) for sale
Current customer rating: (410 votes ) based onAlthough Pontiac marketers deemed the sleek 1970 Firebird. 'The
Beginning of Tomorrow'. no-one could have imagined the basic car
would be produced for a further twelve years. The five original
1970 Firebird models were all coupés and more than ever. most were
sports cars at heart. Reduced power ratings for 1971 were offset by
availability of Pontiac's enormous 455 engine in Formula and Trans
Am models. Mid-1976 brought a Limited Edition Trans Am which set
the style for the incredibly popular Trans Ams to follow. The big
455-cid. V8 disappeared after 1976 and 1979 saw the final Pontiac
400 V8s. Although less powerful and much more common than earlier
high-performance Firebirds. late 70s Trans Ams are enjoying renewed
popularity today with fond memories of the movie 'Smokey and the
Bandit' in which Burt Reynolds speeds across state borders in a
1977 model; the police and state troopers in hot pursuit.
Offered in the traditional black with gold decals. this t-top
bandit has a fully rebuilt and upgraded 6. 6 litre engine. covering
just 800 miles since. The engine and upgrades are extensive and
comprise 455 Ram Jet heads. alloy roller rockers. TRW forged
pistons. Manley stainless valves. sealed power piston rings. br/>Chevette bearings. a competition cam. Eldelbrock RPM intake and a
750 CFM double pump Holley carburetor. The transmission is a TH350
automatic gearbox whilst the running gear includes a ten bolt
rear axle and power disc brakes all sitting on new 15x8 snowflake
wheels and tyres. MoT tested until May 2016 and supplied with old
MoT test certificates dating back to the 90s plus receipts for the
recent upgrades and parts. why not indulge in an iconic
Trans-Am. Cowboy hat & boots not
included.
