OVERVIEW:
This is a restored to original 1929 Nash Series 425 Standard Six 2 Passenger Coupe in roadworthy condition. These cars rode on a 112” wheelbase. weighed in at 2. 00 lbs. . and were powered by a 50 horse. 184 ci. . L-head inline 6-cylinder engine.
This was also the first year that Nash used chrome brightwork in place of nickel.

This car carries with it its day one history. backed by its original bill of sale and very first registration document.
It was purchased new on August 19th. 1929 from Madsen Motor Co. in Spirit Lake. Dickinson County. Iowa by Mr. J. Lyle Osborne of Wrentham. Alberta for the sum of $800. Mr. Osborne brought the car into Canada and registered it on September 6. 1929. where it has remained in the dry western climate of southern Alberta to this day.
It has also remained in the same family all these years.

The present owner is the son of Mr. Osborne's cousin. He acquired the solid. rust free. but tired looking car from Mr. Osborne in the late 1980's. after it spent many years barn stored.
It carries serial # R196437. and its original engine # 196363.
The odometer showed 65. 33 original miles when these present day pictures were taken. May 23rd. 2015.

The car was the subject of a complete body-off restoration. performed by Pride & Joy Auto Restorations of Lethbridge. Alberta.
The engine machine shop work and rebuild was also professionally done by Silver Automotive Ltd. . also of Lethbridge.

This is a solid. roadworthy and reliable car.
It has proven its reliability over the last 20 years by having been on many local outings and tours.
It has won recognition at numerous showings around southern Alberta. Among these are:
Best Antique in 1995. 2000. and 2002.
Best Restored. and a Best Pre-1940 1st in 1997.
And most notably. 1st Place – Class C. 1929-34 at the 2006 Nash Grand National Meet in Kalispell. Montana.

While it is not a flawless high end trailer queen. it remains a very respectable and presentable antique. ready to go further down the road and be appreciated and enjoyed by its next owner.

DRIVETRAIN:
The original rebuilt engine starts easily. runs strong. and sounds good. Reliability and longevity can be expected from these Nash engines as they were equipped with 7 main bearings and solid valve lifters.

The engine compartment is quite clean and tidy. The engine color is believed to be correct.
The original vacuum tank has been disconnected A 6 volt electric fuel pump. mounted underneath on the chassis. is being used full time for reliability and easy starting after periods of storage. A pressure regulator and shut-off valve is located ahead of the Marvel updraft carburetor.

All other components on and around the engine appear to be correct originals and operate as required. having been serviced or rebuilt as required to keep the car in good roadworthy condition.
The radiator was re-cored and is in good condition.
The fan belt and hoses appear in good condition. Modern hose clamps are evident.
Other minor deviations from original are the modern spark plug wires. and the wiring harness with modern plastic loom.

The original 3 speed standard transmission was fully serviced.
The rear axle is original. and has a ratio of 4. 7:1. It was also fully serviced and a new pinion seal installed. It gives no problems. other than the usual minor oil drip hanging from it.

CHASSIS:
The chassis is all original and restored as was required. showing only the road dirt and grime of its miles.
The frame was soda blasted clean. primed and painted. it is very solid and straight.

Leaf spring suspension is original and shows no negative arch. the car maintains a proper looking stance.
The car is equipped knee action shock absorbers. The rebounder strap on the left rear shock has pulled out of its retainer and will need to be re-secured.
Front end steering components were replaced as required.
The complete 4-wheel mechanical brake system was rebuilt. Front brakes are internal expanding and the rears are external contracting.
The exhaust system is in good order.
The gas tank was flushed and internally coated for corrosion protection.

The tires are a matched set of 5 Firestone black wall. bias ply. 4. 75/5. 00 x 20's. They are in excellent condition. with very few miles. They are mounted on original rims.
The wood spoke wheels are beautiful. As with all other wood on the car. they were very solid and required only to be sanded and a fresh coat of clear applied.
They are sporting correct original Nash hubcaps in very nice condition.

BODY & PAINT:
An entire life in the dry climate of southern Alberta ensured this was a very rust free and solid body and wood frame work prior to restoration.
The wood structure was very solid with good integrity throughout. and as such. no part of it needed replacing or reconstruction. The wood remains solid today. and the doors appear to fit well with no droop or looseness on the hinges.

It carried original blue paint prior being stripped to bare metal. Minimal bodywork was required. primarily just straightening a few minor dents. Quality of the body work is excellent. and all sheet metal and body panels are very straight with good panel alignment and gaps.
The door bottoms were clean and rust free. as were the bottoms of the cowl and quarter panels. and trunk lid.

Given the 20 years that have passed since body and paint work was done. I believe there are no hidden surprises with this car.

The car was repainted green as preferred by the owner. and pin striped using modern tape.
The paint is a solid non-metallic color. and the paint is either an acrylic enamel or single stage urethane. This provides for an authentic look and patina as opposed to the high gloss and depth of modern base/coat clear/coat paints.

The prep work. overall finish and shine of the paint job is very good. and it is quite smooth. as evidenced by the nice crisp reflections you can see in some of the pics.
There are few minor chips here and there from its use. most of the little spots you may see in the pics are mostly just dust and such showing up with the flash of the camera.

New top material was installed and is nicely trimmed out. and new wood running boards were made. each one sporting a nice Nash logoed step plate.

ELECTRICAL:
The car retains its original 6-volt electrical system. The car was re-wired using modern plastic coated wire and terminals. mostly housed in modern plastic loom. Cloth loom was used for the wiring to the head lamps.

The attractive gauges are in outstanding original condition. very nice.
All are in working order except for the fuel gauge. A modern temperature gauge has been added under dash to the left of the steering column as insurance.

All driving lights and add-on turn signals are in working order. The car sports nice large cowl lights.
The head lamps are original. but the two lenses are mismatched. One is a Spreadlight. the other a Parabeam.
The tail lights are reproductions with glass ‘STOP' lenses.
The windshield wiper is manual operation only.
The horn is in working order.

INTERIOR:
The interior upholstery is nicely done and still in good condition. appropriate for the car and comfortable. The seats. door and side panels. and headliner are done in a matching mohair type of material.
New carpeting and windlace also. and there is a rear window blind.

A very nice feature is the original wood graining on the dash and window garnish moldings. Although not perfect. it is in good original condition and quite attractive. It contains 2 different colors and grains. enhanced with hand painted pin striping.
Door garnish moldings are painted black.

The steering wheel is also in original condition. has numerous cracks but remains useable and is not crumbling apart as so many do.
Some minor wear on the pedals.

All interior handles and cranks are unrestored originals. The right door has a mismatched interior door handle and is missing an escutcheon.
New glass on the car is clear and in good condition.
New window channels.

The trunk area was painted green and is basically dusty from its travels. There is a carpet for it which matches the interior carpet. It was removed to show the trunk pan. and is not shown.
A little bit of surface rust is visible at the rear of the pan. but there is no metal rust out or wood rot evident anywhere. The trunk lid wood structure is also very solid.

BRIGHTWORK:
This was the first year that Nash used chrome bright work on their cars. Most of the chrome on the car was redone at time of restoration and it remains in excellent condition. and is evident that it was quality work done to a high standard.

Re-chromed items include both front and rear bumpers. the rad shell and cap. head lamps. cowl molding and lamps. and hood handles.
The cowl lamps contain amber lenses and are used as turn signals.
Rear turn signals are thru the reproduction tail lamps.

The rad shell sports a nice Nash emblem in good condition. and no crank hole cover.
There is about a ½” hole in the bottom chrome skirt just to the left of the crank hole. This skirt is separate from the rad shell and so could be removed for repair if desired.

Both outer door handles are original unrestored. The trunk latch is missing. but there is a key for the lock on the rear mounted spare.
The hubcaps are correct originals in super nice original condition. They can be removed and installed by hand. but the 2 indentations are there to accommodate a special wrench. which the owner does not have. It would be simple enough to make one.

SUMMARY:
The original documents will be included with the car. along with a reproduction Owner's Manual. Parts Book.
There are also some spare parts which include a luggage rack with brackets. a hot water heater. a visor. carburetor. grease gun. and miscellaneous.

As a nice older restoration. it has proven itself reliable throughout its life and remains a very presentable and useable. fun car.
The little things it needs or that could be improved on can be done over time. while having fun with it. No hidden secrets or horrors with this car.

If you are considering a sporty little coupe from the roaring ‘20s. then this could be it! You won't need to spend several years in the garage restoring it.
After 30 years of owning and enjoying this one family car. the couple who restored and cared for it have decided to make this car available to its next caretaker.
