The Reliant Scimitar series were manufactured between 1964 and
1986. Reliant's first Scimitar was a coupé based upon the styling
of a Daimler SP250 prototype (renamed the SX250) and the chassis of
a Reliant Sabre. First displayed in 1964. it was powered by a 2. 6
litre Ford straight six from the Ford Zephyr/ Ford Zodiac and in
order to keep cost down. many components in addition to the engine
were existing ones originally designed for competitor models. a
point emphasised for buyers of the early Scimitars in which
unfolding the sun visor involved knocking the driver's mirror out
of adjustment. This Particular 1966 Scimitar is the very rare GT4A
variation and can safely be held as one of. if not the very best
example in existence today. Presented in gleaming white with black
leather this example has been painstakingly and lovingly restored
to a near concourse standard with every detail thought out and
completed just as the original car would have been when it rolled
off of the production line. Offering the 2. 6 litre Ford straight
six. the car drives beautifully without fault and certainly does
not want for power as the vendor had no hesitance in showing us
upon valuation. A full re-spray was amongst the work included in
this three year restoration but the vendor did stress that. where
possible. the originality had been preserved but one look in the
engine bay will reassure any potential purchaser as to the quality
of workmanship which can also be checked and detailed in the
significant history file. Offered with an Mot test certificate and
road fund license. this motor car is undoubtedly a part of both
Reliant and British motor car heritage and we would certainly
recommend viewing of such a car rarely found in such
condition.
