Fiat 500 L for sale
Current customer rating: (325 votes ) based onI bought this car from a friend in the Dutch Fiat 500 club and know a decent amount of its history.
The car is originally Italian and was exported to Holland in 1989. It was then restored by a Dutch Lady in the late 1990's and everything was replaced. I mean everything!
The engine is the standard 499cc with the original gear box and performs perfectly. I've owned 500's for the past 20 years and the engine's although great can get tired as they get older and start to sound horse. This engine was fully reconditioned and is tight which give's off a fresh 500 sound. not horse at all and returns on average 56mpg. Recently she had some engine work by a fiat specialist and motor's perfectly as a 500 should.
The bodywork is excellent for a car of older restoration. the floors. sill‘s. inner and outer panel's were all replaced and there is no structural rust anywhere. She is not wax oiled underneath. which is a good thing. as its very clear to see the condition of the floors underneath. an area that normally suffer on these little cars. The floor's and all underneath are perfect with no weld's.
Maintenance wise I keep her as clean as I can. She is used in fine weather over the summer months. Recently. I had the oil changed which is very easy. ill show you how to do it. I have the original paint number with the car and recently put a new coat of paint on the wheels. She also is sporting an Abarth twin exhaust with chrome tail pipes which is complimented by a new set of chrome wheels trim's and 5 brand new tyres.
The shocks are all excellent and she is a great driver. she is small so its easy to nip around other traffic but she is an old girl too so need's a soft touch but is happy to go. if you let her. The interior is immaculate. I keep it very clean and unlike my other 500's the heater in this one is amazing. I drive with the roof down all the time and the heater on. even in warm weather as it helps to keep the engine cool. a trick I learned climbing the mountains in Italy 1997 with the UK fiat 500 club in a 500.
The engine is air cooled so there's no water to worry about and LHD so easy to park! ( Fits in the smallest of garage's)
The paintwork is excellent and polished she looks amazing. I don't want to be critical of her because she is my baby but there are some tiny areas that I've corrected with the paint matcher so all though beautiful she is showing some signs of wear. Her once Concours standard is no longer. but that's understandable for a car that's used and not one that lives in a museum.
She love's nothing more than hitting the hill's or out to the beach. top down.
She remains on her Dutch registration and has the Dutch equivalent mot and everything works from the lights. wipers. indicators. the little interior light. brake lights even the fuel guage light although I always keep her full. The Brakes are spot on! No pulling to the left or right.
I have been driving these little wonder's since 1992 when I was 12. Im now 33 and I still adore them and will tell you anything you want to know about “Baby”.
She's a wonderful little car but my collection is going through a change and with another 2 fiat 500's in my life. one has to go! The best one unfortunately :)
