Oldsmobile : Eighty-Eight 4dr Celebrity Sedan

Clean. solid Nebraska car.   Mostly original paint. all original interior and chrome.  

Incredible original metallic coral (Autumn Mist) and white paint still has a deep. clear shine in most areas…light patina. and some stone chips and scratches are evident.   Super-clean pot metal and chrome. virtually no pitting.  

Completely original interior in excellent condition.   Seats are still soft. not deteriorated.   Original carpet is good but not perfect.   Dash pad is warped but intact.   Dash cluster chrome. steering wheel and gauges are virtually like new.

Mechanically excellent. car runs beautifully and can be driven anywhere right now.   Just serviced. tuned and passed NYS inspection.  Engine is a 394 cubic inch 2 barrel. 250 horsepower V8. with 3 speed Hydramatic trans.  

I've gone over the car thoroughly so it is in reliable. road-ready condition.   Just installed new water pump. rebuilt carb. new belts. hoses. ignition wires. fuel lines. cooling system flush. rebuilt wheel cylinders. repacked wheel bearings. brake system flush. new mufflers. fresh oil & filter change. chassis lube. carb. timing and dwell adjustment.   All five wheels professionally restored and custom color matched. five brand new correct 800-14 whitewall tires (factory correct tire). high speed balanced.  

Fully detailed including hand buffed paint and chrome. trunk. jambs. engine compartment. etc.  

Car drives out really well. smooth. powerful and steady even at high speed.

This engine is the standard lower compression Rocket V8. so it runs well on regular gas.

AC is fully intact but not blowing cold. I have not done troubleshooting on the system.   Needs a heater core. currently is bypassed.

Floors. frame. and underbody panels are clean and solid and have no rust through.   Both rear quarters have very minor rust starting at upper lip. no holes. just blisters.   Inside wheelwell lip metal is perfect. just the outer metal is starting to show slight blisters.   No hidden rust. this is a solid car.  

Body is straight with exception of right rear quarter panel. has some minor dents.   Paint has some minor discolorations in spots. nothing major.   There is a minor bruise on the lip of the trunk lid. visible in the photos.  Trunk compartment is clean and dry and in very good condition.  

Good original stock cars are getting harder and harder to find.  

The '61 Olds has some interesting features such as a tri-color speedometer called Safety Spectrum.   At 0-35 mph the color is green. then from 35-65 it is orange. and above that it turns bright red.   Styling cues on the '61 Olds were “shark” inspired…notice the shark-mouth grille. shark-gill front fender ornaments. shark-fin styled quarter panels. and round shark-eye taillights (also with a superimposed jet engine-look).   Exterior and interior styling are equally as interesting; the dash on this car is just super-cool with the triple oval pods. and vertically ribbed background.   The 61 Olds steering wheel has to be one of the best styled ever out of Detroit; has a deep chromed vee with a three-dimensional center “Oldsmobile” emblem inside.   The color on this car is Autumn Mist. which is a metallic coral color.   A lot of cars from 1961 still retained a 1950's flair. and this Olds is no exception.
