Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.25) based on 330 votes
This auction is for a rare Canadian Firebird.
It is a low mileage. numbers matching 400 HO Ram Air III car
The 400 HO and the Ram Air III engines are identical. except for the optional air induction system
This car was ordered without the ram air induction system
Fully documented by (PHS) Pontiac Historical Services and General Motors of Canada

I am the 3rd owner and have had the car for 32 years
It comes with the original GM ignition and trunk keys!

The car was built in Lordstown Ohio and imported into Canada on Oct. 28th 1968
It has been in Winnipeg since it was purchased at a local dealership on August 22nd 1969
The first owner drove it for one year and then sold it to my former neighbor in 1970
He drove it for a few years and also raced it in stock condition at a local dragstrip called Bison Dragways in the early 70s
He gave me some of the time slips and I am including them with the documents
The engine and transmission were removed in 1973 and the car was stored until 1982
When I purchased the car from him in 1982 it had the original Carousel Red paint and just over 20. 00 miles showing on the odometer
I didn't really like the color back then so I decided to have the car re-painted. the current color is 1982 GM Victoria Plum
All of the body panels are original. the floor pans and trunk are solid

The motor was rebuilt to stock specifications
The WQ block has not been bored out and still has the original pistons
The cylinders were honed and new rings were installed
It has the original crankshaft. camshaft. #48 cylinder heads as well as the original cast-iron intake manifold
The engine is also equipped with the original vintage ram air III long branch exhaust manifolds
The exhaust system is from the 80s. 2 1/2 inch pipes with vintage Turbo mufflers
The car is currently running a vintage 80s Holley 750 cfm carb and HEI distributor
The original Carter Quadrajet carb and distributor are included

The front and rear bumpers were re-chromed and various trim pieces. emblems etc were purchased from GM in the 80s
Some of the front panels in the engine compartment were also chromed
The interior is all original other than the reproduction carpet that was installed in 1982
The original front seats are in pretty good condition but show some wear which is to be expected after 45 years
The original headliner. dash pad. door panels and rear seat are in excellent condition
The tinted windshield and window glass are all original and in very good condition
The AM radio. clock and power antenna are functional
To keep accurate tabs on the engine the stock gauges are not being used
The car has a vintage 80s Autometer tach on the steering column and Stewart Warner temp/oil pressure gauges mounted under the dash
The engine runs good. has lots of power. steady oil pressure and stays under 200 degrees even in warm weather
The clutch. original Hurst shifter with rare walnut shift knob and Muncie M21 4 speed function well
The car also has vintage 70s traction bars and a functional roll control line lock system installed for doing stationary burnouts
The Rally II rims were purchased from GM in 1982
New tires were put on the car in 2012
They are BF Goodrich Radial T/A's and have less than 500 miles on them
Front tires are P21570R-14. rear are P24560R-14

The engine does leak some oil. it appears to be coming from the rear main seal which is quite common with Pontiac engines of this era
I believe the 10 bolt rear end is original but the gear ratio is unknown
I think it is probably in the 3:55 to 3:70 range

Original items from Towne Pontiac dealership include:
New Vehicle Warranty Booklet
Protect-O-Plate Warranty Card
Owners Manual

This car has been covered. stored in a garage for many years and driven less than 1000 miles in the last 5 years
I recently drove it about 30 miles with no issues or problems on the day these pictures were taken
The speedometer works and the odometer currently reads 37. 14 miles

Even though the paint is 32 years old. it still has good shine and has held up quite well
There are areas with some surface rust and bubbles
The most noticeable area is behind the tire on the driver's side rear quarter panel
It also has some chips. scratches and dings that may not show up in the pictures

I have enjoyed owning this car very much over the last 32 years but now it is time to let it go
The car sounds great. it always turns heads and gets compliments whenever I drive it or park somewhere

Not very many of these cars were imported into Canada
Fully documented low mileage Ram Air III Firebirds are very rare and hard to find in any condition

On Nov-13-14 at 10:40:54 PST. seller added the following information:

I have had a lot of inquiries about the car:
It does have the original and correct engine:

The block casting # is 9790091
The casting date on the block near the distributor is G178 which decodes as July 17. 1968
The front of the block just above the water pump is stamped 058052 with engine code WQ below it

WQ is the code for a 1969 Ram Air III engine with manual transmission

The VIN 29U102328 is stamped on the front of the block near the timing cover
Both cylinder heads are stamped 48 on the center exhaust ports
The casting dates on the heads are H218 and H238 which decode as Aug. 21. 1968 and Aug. 23. 1968
