This very rare Subeam 80 Convertible has had a very interesting history alot of which is documented . The restoration work done mid 80's with photo record present was done as to make a 1st class car to use for a daughters wedding . his was achieved. Two long term previous owners of note were the secretary of the sunbeam owners register and a gentleman on the Isle of Wight. sed it? for sunny? Sunday afternoons.
The Rootes heritage certificate shows from production of only 2 years and 2 months ending in october 1950 . his was one of the last cars ever produced . The car was despatched from the factory 31st october 1950 . It was sent direct to "Thrupp and Maberly " who were known for Rolls Royce coachworks . To adopt the streamline body and 3 way drophead design. It was then despatched to a Mr Squire of Kent . The original registration was applied to the car in November 1950 by Croydon council .
It is believed only 6 of this model in convertible format still exist.
The car has for 2015 been featured in a Rootes calender . We have sent to America for a copy.
The 80 model came with 4 speed coloumn change and a 1185 cc engine.
The car came with a few options from new . A valve radio which we have been assured still works? and the iconic 50s style heater . The original tool kit is present in the hidden boot compartment . (nice to see)
We hold lots of receipts for work over the years showing car has been well maintained . We also have mots going back to mid 80s showing the car has covered approx 5000 miles in the last 30 years.
The car also comes with an original handbook and a full Navy tonneau cover .
The engine starts 1st time every time and is running lovely . The manual box is all working as it should . The brakes are all working fine . The car has been maintained to a high standard since it was restored mid 80's .
The original wheels and chrome trims are all very good . there is very light pitting on a couple of outer rings . The radial tyres are all excellent showing very little use .
The paintwork is very good . With the Thrupp and Maberley "streamline body it just looks fab. All the brightwork is very good . The 3 way hood is excellent with no rips etc and there is a full tonneau cover to match. The original semaphores all work as well as the now legal aftermarket indicators. The addition of the period spotlight and the chrome badge bar really finish the look off . If you were ever thinking of doing Goodwood . his car would go down a storm .
The interior is great . The iconic dash takes you right back to the late fourties early Fifties. Has the original period valve radio and the optional heater box. All the gauges appear to be working apart from the clock. he fuel gauge requires a light tap occaisionaly . The carpets are in very good shape . The seats retain there original patina . hey do have cracks etc sunomunous with their age. Of special note there is a medal hanging from the mirror given by the London Ambulance brigade in 1949 . We believe this to be from the original owner from when the car was new . This story has been passed down previous owners .

Is the car still for sale?

from David Wilson, dated 29 december 2020
Sir
My first car was a Sunbeam Talbot 80 convertible, 1948 vintage in metachichrome sapphire blue , still have the paint . The engine blew up in Lancashire, water pump disintegrated , in 1967 . Had good times . Your car , if still available , is somewhat lacking in history and the " body kit " lacks credence.
